A new chapter in supporting Indian River County's veterans!

For more than 40 years, the Veterans Council of Indian River County has been there for the men and women who served our country. Now, that important work continues through Mission United, a new program of United Way of Indian River County

Veterans can continue to count on the same trusted services, including rides to VA appointments, case management, and direct financial assistance, with the same drivers and phone number. Mission United also connects veterans with housing, employment, healthcare, legal assistance, and other resources.

We are grateful to the Veterans Council for its decades of dedicated service and to United Way for carrying that commitment forward.

Indian River County Community Services is hosting another Community Forum this evening to help residents better understand Amendment 3 and what it could mean for our community.

Commission Chairman Deryl Loar and County Administrator John A. Titkanich Jr. will discuss the proposed amendment, its potential local impacts, and how property taxes are used to fund County services.

***Reminder*** Indian River County’s first Community Forum on Amendment 3 is this Friday, October 9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Intergenerational Recreation Center.

Board Chairman Deryl Loar and County Administrator John A. Titkanich Jr. will discuss what Amendment 3 proposes, how property-tax revenue supports County services, what preliminary estimates can tell us today, and what remains unknown. Residents will also have time to ask questions.

These forums are educational in nature and are intended to provide local context for our residents.

Unable to attend Friday? The same information will be shared Wednesday, October 14, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Indian River County Fairgrounds.

Yesterday, Indian River County opened its first new I-95 interchange in nearly 50 years, approximately 400 days ahead of schedule.

For the people who travel Oslo Road every day, this means a more direct route to I-95, less pressure on nearby interchanges, and faster access for first responders when time matters most.

This has been a long time coming, and seeing it open ahead of schedule is something this community can be proud of.

We are grateful to Governor Ron DeSantis for making this investment possible. Thank you to Senator Erin Grall and Representative Robbie Brackett for their continued advocacy for Indian River County, and to Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, and the entire FDOT team for bringing this project across the finish line.

Thank you as well to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners for its continued focus on the needs of South County and the future of our community.

Sometimes the difference in a girl’s life is one person who knows her name, sees her potential, and reminds her that her future can be bigger than the circumstances she was born into.

That is the work Treasure Coast Girls Coalition is doing in Indian River County. Through after-school programs, academic support, mentorship, leadership development, STEAM enrichment, and career exploration, the organization gives girls ages 9 to 18 a place to be challenged, encouraged, and supported.

Today, Vice Chair Laura Moss read the Board’s proclamation recognizing October 11 as International Day of the Girl. Thank you to Shala Edwards, Founder and Executive Director of Treasure Coast Girls Coalition, for creating opportunities that can truly change the direction of a young person’s life.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.

Today, Chairman Deryl Loar read the Board’s proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. SafeSpace joined the Board to share its work supporting survivors across Indian River County and the Treasure Coast.
