Calling all books lovers! Brackett Library has two exciting new ways to connect, create, and discover your next great read this October!

Main Character Reading Club: Beginning Monday, October 19 at 3 PM and continuing on the third Monday of each month. Teens and adults are invited to enjoy bookish crafts, games, recommendations, and good company with no assigned reading!

Match Made in the Stacks: Tuesday, October 13 at 6 PM.
Choose a library book, wrap and decorate it, create a bookmark and tag, then exchange it with another reader! Registration is required, and all books will be checked out to participants. For more information or to register for Match Made in the Stacks, contact [email protected].

New at Brackett Library! Thanks to a grant from REACH—Resources & Education for Aging, Community, and Health, we now offer dementia-friendly books, picture books, word games, and Stay Sharp kits.

The materials are designed to encourage conversation, reminiscence, mental engagement, and enjoyable shared experiences.

These resources are ideal for individuals experiencing memory loss, their families, caregivers, and care professionals.

New program alert! Starting in September the Brackett Library at IRSC will be hosting a monthly Pre-School Show and Tell program. This program for 3 to 5 year olds is a great opportunity for preschoolers to improve confidence and increase verbal communication skills. Staff at all branches of the Indian River County Library System wore pink today in honor of the passing of our beloved Dolly Parton.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month over 1700 children in Indian River County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, Indian River County Library and Dolly Parton Imagination Library staff who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.
