Kathie Giorgio is the author of eight novels, two story collections, an essay collection, and five collections of poetry. Awards include Pushcart Prize nominations in fiction and poetry, the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association (The Home for Wayward Clocks), and the Pencraft Award for Literary Excellence (In Grace's Time and If You Tame Me). Her short fiction and poetry have been published in numerous literary journals, incorporated in art exhibits and performed on stage by Stories on Stage in Boulder, Colorado. She is the founder and director of AllWriters’ Workshop and Workplace, a creative writing studio based in Waukesha, Wisconsin offering classes for writers in all genres and abilities.

In The Birth of a Widow, Kathy examines the sudden and cruel loss of her husband in meticulous detail including the loneliness, loss of identity, and the frustrating search for meaning it brought about. This volume will resonate with those grappling with a loss, and all who appreciate a beautiful, authentic voice.

Kathy will share a selection of readings from her newest book, as well as take audience questions. Don't miss this opportunity to share a look at grief and redemption through the eyes of a gifted local author.

Participants will receive instruction in basic Zen meditation from a trained practitioner including how to position the body for stable and comfortable meditation, how to breathe correctly, and an overview of meditation benefits.

The session will include about 30 minutes of instruction, followed by 15–20 minutes of practice and 5–10 minutes for questions.If you don't have a meditation cushion, please bring 2-3 bath towels and learn how to fashion one from those.
