Kia loved sunflowers.
We have planted a sunflower garden next to Kia's Little Free Library both in memory of her, and to raise awareness and honor the millions of people struggling with depression.
We want to be part of removing stigma associated with depression. The sunflower is a symbol of depression. From iFred (http://www.ifred.org), an organization that does research, education and work to reduce stigma around depression: "Sunflowers grow towards the sunlight with their faces tracking the sun. We need those with depression to seek light instead of responding to the natural instinct of hiding in darkness during a depressive episode".
If you'd like to plant sunflowers in honor of Kia or someone else you know struggling with depression, please stop by her Little Free Library and pick up a packet of seeds that are located just inside. Also feel free to take or leave a book or take a moment to rest on the bench and sign the Tardis guest book, found on the top shelf of the library.
