This afternoon, Verona Fire Department units were dispatched to a report of a basement fire. Assistant Chief Matt Gifford arrived on scene and confirmed smoke coming from the front door of a single family home and established Incident Command. Fire Chief Nick Poliseno arrived on scene shortly after and assumed Incident Command. First arriving crews arrived on scene and quickly stretched a hoseline down the driveway and into the rear of the home. Interior crews did extensive overhaul to prevent the fire from spreading further. The scene was deemed safe and turned over to Verona's Fire Prevention Bureau. VFD units operated on scene for two hours.

Chief Poliseno, Assistant Chief Gifford, Engines 11, 14, Truck 12, Squad 16, Brush 19 and Utility 15 were on scene. North Caldwell and Montclair provided mutual aid on the scene.

This morning, Verona Fire Department units were dispatched to a report of a house fire. Assistant Chief Matt Gifford arrived on scene and confirmed a working house fire in a two family home and established Incident Command. First arriving crews arrived on scene and quickly stretched hoselines through the front door and to the rear. Fire Chief Nick Poliseno later arrived on scene and assumed command as additional Verona crews and mutual aid crews furthered the fire attack and did extensive overhaul to prevent the fire from spreading further. The fire was brought under control and the scene was eventually turned over to Verona's Fire Prevention Bureau. VFD operated on scene for two hours.

Chief Poliseno, Assistant Chief Gifford, Engines 10, 11, 14, Truck 12, Squad 16 and Utility 15 were on scene, while assisted by crews from Caldwell, Cedar Grove and Montclair.

North Caldwell, West Caldwell and West Orange crews provided station coverage for the remainder of the township.

Last week, Verona UNICO President Mickey Melillo Lawrence, presented a $500 donation to Verona Fire Chief Nick Poliseno of the Verona Fire Dept.
UNICO National is an Italian-American service organization that promotes Italian heritage and raises money for local charities. Nearly all the money that Verona UNICO raises throughout the year is donated back to Verona in the form of Verona town improvements, Verona charities, and Verona scholarships.
Inspired by the work that Verona UNICO does, Kevn Toscano (a member of Verona UNICO and Verona Fire Dept.) matched Verona UNICO’s $500 donation to the Verona Fire Dept.

On 2/12/26, VFD units were dispatched to a vehicle fire in a parking lot of a Bloomfield Avenue business. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries reported.

Always training! Great class presented by retired Chief Anthony Avillo.

For our drill last night members attended a lecture at the Verona Fire Department. The class entitled Command Structure for the Short Staffed Department was presented by retired Chief Anthony Avillo. Thank you to Verona for hosting this training class.

Yesterday morning at approximately 6:30 AM members of both companies responded to the City of East Orange for a cover assignment while East Orange FD operated at a third alarm fire. While covering the city, Engine 10 responded to one call for service. Members operated in East Orange for approximately 2 hours before returning to Verona.

Yesterday, members of the VFD Color Guard had the honor of presenting the colors at the New Jersey Devils hockey game!

The VFD was represented by firefighters Steve Tedesco, David Steitz, Matthew Steitz and Steven Neale.
