The allegations in this lawsuit, if they're true, represent a profound breach of the public trust.

As libertarians, we often warn that government officials can become insulated from accountability. These allegations are exactly the kind of conduct that fuels that concern. If the statements attributed to EMS leadership were actually made—and were even recorded—then this county may be facing a serious reckoning over professionalism, accountability, and how employees who report misconduct are treated.

According to the lawsuit, EMS leadership allegedly told the employee there was "no proof anything happened," dismissed admitted comments as a "he said, she said" situation, suggested it was her responsibility to say "no" to harassment, warned her she could be fired or even face defamation charges if she spoke about it, and allegedly instructed her to "lock those lips" and tell no one—not even her own family. The lawsuit further claims she was ultimately constructively discharged.

These are allegations, and they deserve to be thoroughly investigated. But if they prove to be accurate, the public deserves answers, accountability, and meaningful consequences for anyone who abused their authority.

Some July 4th, 250 musings from the woodford lp treasurer...

As a history minor who specialized in early American history, I've been looking for the right way to mark our country's 250th birthday.
To me, America is still a land of stories.
It's my grandfather volunteering to fight in World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It's my other grandfather spending 30 years building tractors and retiring comfortably thanks to the company stock he believed in. It's my grandmother graduating as the valedictorian of her college class in the 1940s.
America remains a place of great risk and great reward. Time and again, we see people in business, music, sports, and Hollywood take extraordinary chances. Some achieve incredible success, while others experience spectacular failure. That willingness to pursue opportunity—even with no guarantee of success—is part of what has long made America unique.
This year, it's also been wonderful to watch videos of World Cup visitors enjoying the restaurants, small businesses, and traditions that have become part of American culture. Seeing our country through the eyes of visitors is a reminder of what makes it special.
That doesn't mean the "great experiment" is without its challenges. It often feels as though too many elected officials are willing to compromise their principles to protect powerful interests rather than the ideals that inspired our nation's founding. I believe America's story will continue to be one of citizens defending, debating, and redefining the rights and freedoms our founders sought to protect in the Bill of Rights.
My hope for everyone reading this is that you experience the opportunities this country can offer, weather the setbacks that inevitably come, and find success without too many hard lessons along the way.
Happy 250th birthday, America.

Kentuckians are still looking for real solutions to the decades-long opioid crisis that has devastated families across the Commonwealth.
University of Kentucky research continues to add to evidence suggesting that medical cannabis access is associated with reductions in opioid-related harms. While research is ongoing, the direction of the data is hard to ignore given the scale of Kentucky’s overdose crisis.
Instead of seriously engaging with that public health reality, the conversation in Frankfort keeps getting pulled into a political fight over who has authority—legislators or the executive branch—rather than what actually works for patients.
Meanwhile, patients and healthcare providers are left in the middle of legal uncertainty and political threats, while access to potentially safer alternatives remains limited or delayed.
This should not be about protecting turf or scoring political points. It should be about reducing overdose deaths, expanding treatment options, and giving Kentuckians safer tools for pain management.
Medical cannabis is widely supported by the public in Kentucky. At some point, lawmakers are going to have to decide whether they are going to follow that reality—or keep fighting it.
