The Versailles Public Library opened its doors to the public on March 20, 1937, in three rooms on the second floor of the Peoples Bank building (currently the Floor Store and More). It began with a book collection of fifty volumes, plus 250 books borrowed from the state library in Columbus. The Versailles Library was set up as a School District Library by the state and is still classified as such.

On June 1, 1951, the library was moved to the Marker Building on West Main Street (currently Living Waters Ministries). From there it was moved on December 1, 1960 to the former Worch home on East Main St. The home was a generous gift to the Library Board of Trustees from brother and sister, Mr. Pauline Giinther in memory of their aunt and uncle, Mr. In 1963, the official title of the library was changed to "Worch Memorial Public Library". The Worch home served our community well for 43 years until space and accessibility became major problems. After years of planning, frugal saving, and many generous donations, ground breaking for the new library took place on November 1, 2001. The new library opened its doors on February 17, 2003. In 1937 Versailles Library was open three days a week, had a collection of 723 volumes, 570 registered patrons, and an annual circulation of 4,381. Currently the library is open five days a week, has 5,640 borrowers, 39,000 volumes, and the circulation in 2004 was 139,989. We are proud of our new facility. We now have the ability to grow and to meet the needs of our community today and in the future.
