Training last night was all about auto extrication. 29 of your firefighters started with the basics and moved into a very complex scenario that consisted of a passenger car under a box truck along with an SUV into the side of the truck, both with live “victims” inside.
Real life, hands-on training is invaluable and sharpens our skills so we can provide the best service possible.
A big thank you to Garber Diesel for providing the vehicles, getting everything set up and assisting with the complex scenario.

“Service Before Self”

We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who exercised their right to vote today. The sales tax question we proposed overwhelmingly passed because of your continued support for our firefighters.
We promise to always be good stewards of your money, your equipment, the well being of your firefighters, and most importantly, to always be there when you need us.
We are honored to serve every single one of you, and we cannot thank you enough for supporting the men and women of the Versailles Rural Fire Protection District!
God bless!

Good evening! Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th, the Versailles Rural Fire Protection District will have a 1/2 cent sales tax question on the ballot. The flyer below lays out a few of our objectives if this question is approved. Additional information is available on the Versailles Rural Firefighters Association website at www.vrffa.org or by scanning the QR code below.
Please come to the polls tomorrow and show support for your volunteer firefighters. Thank you!

Over the last week, the Versailles Rural Fire Protection District responded to 24 calls for service, which is over a 100 percent increase in our average weekly call volume. Multiple factors caused this increase, but none more than the unseasonably warm and dry weather conditions. Over 125 man hours were spent on fire related incidents alone. Those 125 plus hours don’t include the dozens of hours spent responding to motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and staging of apparatus and personnel for coverage while units were working other incidents.
Over this time period we responded to 9 natural cover fires, 2 structure fires, 1 vehicle fire, 3 motor vehicle accidents and 9 medical emergencies. 9 of these calls were mutual aid requests from our neighboring departments and 12 of these calls overlapped incidents we were actively working.
Additionally, 3 personnel and 1 engine had the honor to es**rt the remains of retired Columbia, MO Fire Dept. Captain Billy Hurt, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty while working crash rescue at a dirt track race in Texas.
We must thank our great mutual aid partners, Morgan County 911 and Mid-Mo Ambulance District for the services and support they provide.
The volunteer fire service comprises over 85 percent of fire departments in the United States and our area is no different. VRFPD has an ALL-VOLUNTEER staff of over 45 firefighters, and if it wasn’t for the dedication of our volunteers and the community support we receive, these calls for service would likely go unanswered.
Thank you for your continued support, and if you want to help your neighbors, consider joining your local fire department.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a good man. Billy was an amazing instructor and mentor, but more importantly, he was a good friend. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

We have traditionally been seen wearing “tan” bunker gear. This year we have decided to make a change to switch to black gear. This decision was not made on a whim, but after we reviewed several studies, we determined that black gear is safer for your firefighters. The reflective stripes against a black background is more noticeable on highway incidents, along with the fact that black gear shows thermal degradation better than tan gear, (which helps us determine when gear is no longer safe for your firefighters). It gives us a better metric for when we need to replace gear for your firefighters. We strive to give the best for your volunteers, and give them the greatest opportunity to do what you expect of us. Thank you all so much for your support and we are so proud to serve you!
