On the Evening of Wednesday June 10th, 2026 your Richland Twp Firefighters responded to multiple calls from Storm Damage. An Area of Rock Lake recieved significant Damage to Homes, Vehicles and boats from what appears to be Straight line winds. All residents were evaculated from there homes while your richland firefighters assessed the area before allowing them back. Some had to find an alternate place to stay being access to there home was not safe or integrity of the home was not safe. We are happy to report no injures were to be reported at the time of the incident. The area has been taped off and we ask that everyone stays away while the power company and tree crews clear the area.

Today Thursday June 11th, 2026 we are still receiving calls of lines or poles down.

We would like to remind everyone that If you see a down powerline or pole please stay away and report it.

Please help us on Congratulating William Walker and Adam Richmond. These two individuals just completed and Passed Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat. Also not Pictured but deserves Recognition is Keagan Eddy as he just completed and Passed the Practical Exam of which he was needing yet for his Certification.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding Burn Permits.

What requires a Burn Permit? Anything burned outside of a Fire Ring or Burn Barrel shall require permission to Burn (Burn Permit)

How do I obtain a Burn Permit? Call the Richland Twp. Fire Chief his number is located on Richland Twps Website, you may also PM thru this page.

How much will a Burn Permit Cost me? Richland Twp Fire does not charge.

Why do I need a Burn Permit? This is to keep you and your Neighbors safe of any Hazards. This also prevents the fire department responding with the Big Red Trucks to a unknown fire.

What can I burn? We are not Fire Police what you can and cannot burn is Regulated by the State, see images below of what these rules are

No Burn Permits will issued over the Weekend. Campfires and Burn Barrels do not require a Burn Permit and if you choose to have such a fire please use common sense and keep water or a extinguisher nearby to help prevent any spread of fire.

Fire danger throughout much of Michigan is high as we head into the weekend. Burn permits for yard waste are not being issued throughout parts of the state to help keep fire chances minimal.

As always, if you have a campfire, please keep a watchful eye on it and when done: drown, stir, drown.

Much of northern Michigan has tons of debris on the forest floor from the 2025 March ice storm and that has fire dangers in those areas especially worrisome. Please do your part to keep wildfires from happening.

UPDATE 10:03am April 15th
ROAD IS BACK OPEN

Crystal Rd Shut down from McBrides Rd to NewComb Rd due to excessive amount of water rushing over roadway and shoulder washed out. Please avoid this area and find an alternate route.

Detour in place NewComb Rd to Waldron to McBrides Rd.
