On this Throwback Thursday, let's reminisce about African Rd. Elementary students' recent trip to Iowa State University, where they competed in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. On their down time from the competition, they explored the campus and enjoyed sightseeing around the area.

James Palombaro and Myra Upreti, first-time competitors at the Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) World Finals, were delighted to represent ARE as part of the New York State walk-in crew in the Competition's Opening Ceremony. Both students were thrilled by the experience of waving to a roaring crowd cheering for them from all directions including teammates: Gyati Upreti, Emma Tong, Aarav Raj, Mithra Senthil, & Inaya Khawar.

When they weren't competing, the team made the most of their time at Iowa State University. They enjoyed swimming at the university gym, earning a pin at the Creativity Festival, trading pins with global participants, shopping for souvenirs for their teachers & friends at the international marketplace and treating themselves to ice cream at the famous Iowa State Creamery alongside the VMS team.

The fun didn't stop with the students; the ARE team also took part in the event's additional coaches' competition. Coaches Jessica Palombaro and Bindia Upreti, alongside district co-coordinator Jen Sonnen, chose a "Solar System" theme. The coaches portrayed the Sun, Moon, and Mother Earth, while the students played the planets revolving around them. It was a fitting finale to a great year, metaphorically showing the students creatively "running circles" around the coaches who kept everyone focused on productive, structured fun!

Two of our Vestal Hills Elementary School teachers took their expertise off campus earlier this week! Monika Fridrich and Jeanie Ainslie visited Binghamton University on June 9th to present to education students on the value of play-based learning in the classroom. As advocates for play-based learning, Ms. Fridrich and Ms. Ainslie are not only making an impact in their own classrooms but now inspiring the next generation of educators as well. We could not be more proud to have them representing VHE! đź’šđź’›

A little dirt and a lot of teamwork!

This morning, Clayton Ave. Elementary SPARK students helped spruce up the school entrance by planting flowers, weeding, and caring for the garden bed.

Our Golden Bears have been learning how to plant and care for flowers while helping create a welcoming space for visitors.

They did a great job!

Yesterday, Tioga Hills Elementary staff, students, and musician Jared Campbell surprised Mr. Doolittle as he prepares for retirement. What started out as a Jared Campbell end-of-school-year concert (that was the "planned story") turned into a special moment honoring someone who has meant so much to THE.

While most know Mr. Doolittle as the head custodian, students and staff know he is much more than that. Every day, he took time to connect with students, offer words of encouragement and lend a helping hand when needed.

To honor Mr. Doolittle's years of service and dedication, Jared Campbell created a special song for him and sang it for the first time yesterday. (You can look forward to a snippet of that video later today). There were many smiles and more than a few tears.

As a bonus surprise, our Golden Bears sang a special song, "For Good".

Thank you, Mr. Doolittle, for your kindness, service to our school community, and the positive difference you made each day.
