This 1925 map of "El Gloria Park" in the Town of Maine is probably unfamiliar to many current residents. Located at the intersection of Weber Road (Old Mill Road) and Rt. 26, this subdivision advertised "New 4- and 5- room bungalowsโ€ฆ keep a cow and chickensโ€ฆ live as God intended you should." This planned development never got underway and the land was later sold and developed into the mobile home park that exists there today. Presumably with far fewer cows and chickens than originally intended!

Each week, we will be sharing a map from our collection of about 4,000 items!

The City of Binghamton's 13 Wards, the Town of Dickinson and the Town of Binghamton are colorfully displayed on this 1908 map. The curious eye might wonder about the "Gospel and School" and "Literature" lots to the south in the Town of Binghamton. In 1786, the New York State Legislature provided for the creation of such lots with the intent to provide a public space for ecclesiastical and educational activities. By the time of this map, the lots had been divided and sold to private owners, although the lot names are used as location references in deeds to this day.

There are many County staff behind the scenes that our customers don't typically see, but they are key to helping to keep the Broome County Clerk's Office up and running! Last week we dropped into the Endicott DMV -- and Chuck, Al and Chris from the County Buildings & Grounds team were already there to clean, address some bees that had made a home near the front entrance, and perform some maintenance duties in the office. We're so appreciative of them and all of the Buildings & Grounds staff for their expertise and hard work! Thank you!
