On February 19th, we had an event with Bill McCurine. He is a retired federal justice from the ninth circuit in California. We got to hear from him about his personal story, and we think you will be greatly encouraged by it.
Here is a little background info on Bill: He is a retired federal justice from the ninth circuit in California. He was a Rhodes Scholar, a graduate of Harvard Law, and he was one of the top trial lawyers in San Diego before his appointment on the federal bench. In both his civil practice and as a jurist he has mediated over 1700 cases. Judge McCurine is known to be a quick study, great listener and truly cares about people and of the belief that mediation can resolve any type of civil dispute; therefore, he works endlessly to get results.

Andy entered the financial services industry immediately upon graduating with honors from Birmingham-Southern College. He spent 32 years at First Protective as a sales manager and leading personal producer until being promoted to President. He served as President for 19 years and then went into early retirement. He recently purchased an existing agency which he renamed Providence Benefits. He is married and has three grown children.

This morning one of our small groups got to have their last meeting for the year! This group has been meeting every Thursday morning since June and have been going through a YBL's core curriculum called, "Concentrating on the Majors". We are thankful that we get the opportunity to study God's Word and do life together.
A recent business study conducted found that 68% of men wish that they had a mentor. A mentor can be a great resource and friend to help you navigate the challenges of balancing work and family life. At YBL, we have been matching people with mentors for the last 20 years, and we would love to match you with one. During this season of Advent, I can confidently say one of the presents that the world, your wife, and your children need is the example of a man who will follow God at whatever the cost. Here’s a great article by John Piper that encourages us in that endeavor.

Take this Advent season to really focus on the coming of Christ. It's because of his "appearance" and sacrificial love for us, to the point of death on a cross, that we can be washed of our sin and enjoy the presence of God.

We got the opportunity last week to interview Tony Carter and visit the small group that he co-leads on Tuesday mornings. Take a moment to hear about his experience as he describes how leading a small group has impacted him.
We are incredibly thankful for all that God has accomplished this year through the ministry.
