Fun Times today in the parking lot at the New Merkel House! While we are still closed to activities and no outward gathering we know the importance of seeing fellow friends so what did we do today??!! Drive In Bingo... of course!! All players stayed in their cars, with their bingo cards and the numbers were shouted out. As they “bingoed” they honked their horns and were brought a prize! Pretty sure... a great time was had by all!! Thank you Melanie Perry (New Merkel manager) and Lauren (Long Leaf) for a job well done!!

Thank you to Melanie Perry (New Merkel House manager) for putting together this Birthday Parade for Ms. Joanne (turned 101 today)!

Longtime Vestavia Hills resident Joanne Casey was born during the 1919 pandemic and turned 101 today. She celebrated pandemic-style with a parade attended by Mayor Ashley Curry, the Vestavia Hills police and fire departments, the Vestavia Belles and other friends and neighbors. She waved to the cars from her driveway, and some passed along flowers, cards and gifts.

“I’ve never had such a birthday,” she said. “Thank y’all for coming by and seeing the old bat.”

**Community Spaces Update**

City staff and elected officials met with TCU reps this afternoon to tour the Wald Park and Cahaba Heights Park job sites. Due to the discovery of an unforeseen major electrical issue at Wald, it is not possible to have the ballfields completed in time for this years spring baseball season. In light of this news, City staff have identified other field spaces that can be utilized along with the fields at Liberty Park this season, including fields at the new Pizitz and Dolly Ridge campuses, as well as space at Hoover East.

Now for the good news ... The pools and pool complex are still on schedule to be completed no later than May 22 – just in time for Memorial Day weekend! Cahaba Heights Park is also still on schedule ... actually a bit ahead of schedule!

Thank you so much for your work on the old AVCC property. It’s so nice to have the parking area and gravel extension to the path. I also really appreciate limiting cars to just the parking area and keeping them off the course. It’s been so much better in the neighborhood since these changes were made. Thank you!

May I ask where we stand on gym renovation on 31? West has a event this week and will not allow my 4th/5th grade girls to practice. No where to go for a reasonable time. Thank you!
