Effective at midnight, Knott County will begin a No Burn Ban until further notice.

With dry and windy conditions, several surrounding counties are currently battling active fires. These conditions make it extremely dangerous for any outdoor burning.

We ask everyone to do their part to help prevent wildfires and keep our community safe.

A significant winter storm is anticipated to impact the region this weekend, bringing heavy snow, ice, and freezing temperatures to over 40 states. Here are some essential preparations and updates:
-State of Emergency: 17 states have declared a state of emergency, including Kentucky. Widespread power outages are possible, particularly in areas with substantial ice accumulation. Utilities are preparing for potential outages.
- Safety Precautions:
- Insulate exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip.
- Maintain a warm home environment, and have blankets and warm clothing readily available.
- Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
- Keep emergency supplies, such as food, water, and batteries, on hand.
- Ensure space heaters are kept away from blankets and other coverings.
