Researchers have quantified the economic good of prescribed burning.

A study in the journal Science analyzed U.S. Forest Service data from 285 wildfires that intersected with prescribed burning and other fuel treatments across 11 western states from 2017 to 2023 to measure how much damage was averted due to the treatments.

They found that prescribed burning, along with other forest fuel treatments, avoided the staggering costs of large and severe wildfires. Each dollar invested yielded $3.73 in expected benefits.

Dewey County Farm Safety Day was a success. We appreciate the opportunity to provide education and fun to our most important assets. Thank you for everyone who organized and participated in this important day. Thank you Oklahoma Farm Bureau for providing the inflatable house. This was a great prop and was thoroughly enjoyed by students.

The Woodward Firefighter-2 class begins tonight and they didn’t even have to leave their homes. Good luck guys we are looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks.

We will never forget this day. And for those who may not know - it was an OHP Trooper who arrested Timothy McVeigh. Charlie Hanger pulled over McVeigh on I-35 in Noble County and arrested him. McVeigh was still in the Noble County jail two days later when the FBI identified him as a suspect in the bombing.
