Registration for the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program will be held at City Park Pavilion (next to City Pool) from Wednesday, May 13 through Friday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. As in years past, Levels group lessons will be taught based on each student’s ability, ranging from Level 1 (beginner) through Level 6 (advanced). Levels courses are open to children ages 5 and up who can stand comfortably in the shallow end of the pool, and there is no maximum age limit for participation.
In addition to Levels courses, Vicksburg City Pool will offer lessons for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as Beginning Adult classes. All classes are taught by certified water safety instructors. The cost for each two-week session is $15, payable by cash or check only. Classes are structured as eight 45-minute sessions, with two additional days built in to accommodate possible weather cancellations. Three sessions will be offered throughout the summer, with classes held Monday through Friday for two weeks. Both morning and evening class options will be available.
Due to high demand and limited space, early registration is strongly encouraged, especially for Levels 1 and 2 and the 3- and 4-year-old classes. For younger participants, a parent or adult guardian must be in the water with the child. Proper swim attire is required; T-shirts, play clothes, and undergarments are not permitted in the pool.

ATTENTION!!!! LIFEGUARD TRAINING CLASS RESCHEDULED!!!!

Due to low interest in the original date, the Lifeguard Training Class has been rescheduled to April 13-24. The two week course will be held Monday through Friday from 6 - 8:30p.m. at the YMCA on East Clay Street. Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years of age on or before April 24. Before admittance into class each candidate must successfully complete a 200 yard swim and an endurance and speed test.

Happy Spring Everyone!
If you are 16 years or older*, a strong swimmer, and looking for a fantastic summer job please consider becoming a lifeguard at the City Pool.
An American Red Cross Lifegurard Training Class will be held Monday-Friday, 6-8:30 P.M. March 30-April 12 at the Purks YMCA on Clay Street.
Before being allowed into the class, perspective students must complete a prerequisite test consisting of a continuous 200 yd. swim using front crawl (free-style) and breaststroke and two-timed strength skills.

*Students May be 15 to take the class, but the City of Vicksburg requires its lifeguards to be at least 16 years of age.

An underground water pipe has developed a potentially dangerous leak under the deck at City Pool. We will need to CLOSE THIS THURSDAY, JULY 17 THRU SUNDAY, JULY 20 for needed repairs. We plan to reopen Monday, July 21 with our regular schedule.

Happy Thursday everyone!
Just a friendly reminder that there is a Swim Meet scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at City Pool. We are hoping it will be over early enough that we can salvage the latter half of the day. We are planning to open from 3 - 5 p.m. for our patrons.
Of course, this is totally dependent on timing and weather. Fingers Crossed! Thank you so much for your patience. Our staff appreciates you!

City Pool Opening and Hours of Operation 2025
Vicksburg City Pool will open for public swim on Friday May 30 at 1 p.m. Operating hours will be from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 – 5 p.m on Saturday.
Due to reduced staff and limited swimmer to lifeguard ratio, the swim schedule will remain the same as prior post-Covid years.
Patrons will be able to swim for two-hour sessions: 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Wednesday and Thursday are reserved for daycare centers and special groups.

The maximum swimmer capacity will be 60 patrons for each two hour period. Because of the shortage of lifeguards, we will continue to close the deep end of the pool until we are able to obtain more guard staff.

The fee for entry is $2 per swimmer

City Pool summer schedule is as follows:

Opening Day Friday, May 30

Monday, Friday, Saturday: 1 -3 p.m. and 3 – 5 p.m. Open Swim
Tuesday: Closed for cleaning, training, swim lessons
Wednesday/Thursday: Daycares and Special Groups (reservations required) 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

Lap Swimming is available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday-Friday on non-swim lesson weeks and
12 noon – 1p.m. during swim lesson weeks.
Swim lessons will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 noon and 5:45-6:30p.m. Monday through Friday on:
June 2 – 13, June 23 – July 3, and July 14-25.

We will be closed Friday, June 6 – Sunday June 8 for the Stamm Invitational Swim Meet and Saturday, July 12 for an 8 and Under Last Chance Meet.

We will also be closed on Friday, July 4.

City Pool’s dress code of proper, modest swimsuits (no cotton, sports bras, t-shirts etc.) is strictly enforced.

Vicksburg City Pool will hold registration for its American Red Cross β€œLearn to Swim” program on Wednesday, May 14 – Friday May 16 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Saturday May 17 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the City Park Pavilion adjacent to City Pool on Lee St.

Levels group lessons are taught according to the student’s ability starting with Level 1 (Beginners) through Level 6 (advanced). The Levels courses are for students that are at least 5 years old and can stand comfortably in the shallow area of the pool. Other than needing to be 5 years old there is no age limit to participate in the Learn to Swim program.
In addition to the Levels courses, Vicksburg City Pool will offer 3 and 4 year old lessons and Beginning Adult lessons.
All classes are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors.
The cost for each two week session is $15 and is payable by cash or check only.

Classes are designed to be taught in eight 45-minute class periods, but with the likelihood of rain-outs two extra days are built into the lesson plans. Three sessions will be taught throughout the summer and classes will be held Monday-Friday for two weeks.
There will be morning classes as well as an evening class in each session.

Because of high demand and limited space, anyone interested in registering their children for Level 1 or 2 or for the 3 and 4 year old class are encouraged to register early on the first day of registration to insure your child is enrolled.
For the 3 and 4 year-old classes, a parent or adult guardian is required to be IN THE WATER with each child.
Appropriate swimsuits are mandatory to be in the pool. No T-shirts, play clothes or undergarments are allowed as swim wear.

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, City Pool will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Saturday July 6.
We will open for regular hours on Friday, July 5.

Regrettably , due to staffing issues, we are forced to cancel Recreation Swim on Saturday, June 22. The unavailability of several of our lifeguards would create safety hazards for our patrons and staff.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding in this matter.
We will reopen Monday for our regular schedule.

Vicksburg City Pool will open for public swimming on Monday, June 3 at 1 p.m.
Due to the continuing lifeguard shortage we are limiting the pool swimming area and number of swimmers to 50 per time block.
In order to serve as many patrons as possible we will have two 2-hour swim times per day, 1-3 p.m. and 3 - 5 p.m.
As we have done the past few years, only the kiddie pool and shallow area of large pool will be available for recreation swimming.
The pool will be open for public swim on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Wednesdays and Thursdays will be reserved for child care centers and special groups, Tuesdays will be facility maintenance days. We are closed on Sunday.
Lap swimming will be offered during the lunch hour.
The fee is $2 per person per visit.
Individual Passes can be purchased for $40 and Family Passes are $80.
