Mayor Willis Thompson has signed an agreement with Mission Primary Care Clinic that gives every city employee and family a health clinic.

“When our local hospital needed a dependable partner for patient transportation, the City of Vicksburg and the hospital worked together on a practical solution.

Under our new agreement, the Vicksburg Fire Department will provide transport services using its experienced personnel and ambulance resources. The partnership is projected to make this essential service cashflow positive for the first time since Vicksburg first began offering ambulance service in 1969. It’s a strong example of local partners working together for the benefit of Vicksburg.”

This agreement is projected to move our ambulance operation into a surplus for the first time since the City began providing the service. This is what building a safer, stronger, smarter Vicksburg looks like. We’re creating additional opportunities for our dedicated fire department employees, generating new revenue, and applying sound business practices to improve city government.

During my first year as mayor, approximately $47 million in state funding was awarded for projects and investments benefiting Vicksburg. That represents a major commitment to our community and reflects the combined efforts of our legislative delegation, local leaders, state partners and many others who helped advance Vicksburg’s priorities.

Now, as we enter year two, we are preparing to advocate for another strong legislative agenda.

This week, I joined municipal leaders from across Mississippi to discuss priorities for the upcoming legislative session and exchange ideas about transformational work for the citizens we serve.

Much of the work that moves a city forward happens quietly—building relationships, making the case for our needs and keeping Vicksburg’s priorities before state leaders. That work continues every day.

Stay tuned. We’re just getting started.

Enjoyed a warm but wonderful morning with the ladies of the Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for their Rose Garden Dedication Ceremony in Downtown Vicksburg.

Their collective vision to serve with purpose while advancing social justice, education, and economic progress is inspiring.

Projects like this one, many years in the making, create truly lasting change and will uplift future generations. Thank you for your continued dedication and service to our community!
