Specials Spotlight!
Our new CTE program at Smith STEM Academy is bringing real-world learning to life!
* Welcome to Kalina’s Kountry Market*
This week, Mr. Kalina transformed his classroom into Kalina’s Kountry Market, giving students an exciting opportunity to explore the world of agriculture business and agricultural marketing.
K-1st: Students learned important vocabulary such as business, customer, and product, and then put their learning into action by shopping and buying their products from the Market!
2nd–5th grade: Students were given a $25 budget and were tasked with selecting 3 items and to stay within their budget! Students were also challenged to explain why people should shop at Kalina’s Kountry Market, giving them an opportunity to think like business owners and marketing specialists!
Throughout the experience, students were practicing their STEM fluency skills, especially collaboration and communication. Students worked together to make purchasing decisions, calculated their totals, and communicated their final total to Mr. Kalina at the register!
What an incredible way to connect STEM skills to real-world experiences while making learning FUN! We are so excited to see where our new CTE program takes our students next!
