Growing our own prosecutors in Victoria County—⚖️

Last week, ADA Zach Miles wrapped up weeks of preparation with a mock trial by the Our Lady of Victory Catholic School 8th graders. We saw some amazing future litigators in action!

This morning two Victoria ISD students are job shadowing ADAs Alex Mansker, Erin Janssen Zarosky, and Mikaela Lynn Skalicky by attending court and visiting our office.

Victoria County Operational Update

Based on current conditions and forecasted weather, Victoria County will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026. All offices and services will open at their regularly scheduled times. No delayed start is anticipated at this time.

We appreciate the public’s attention to this update and encourage everyone to continue to monitor the Victoria Office of Emergency Management page.

A Victoria County jury found Nakesha Shantay Barnes guilty of capital murder Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday, January 7th, at approximately 11:58 p.m., Victoria County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported disturbance in the 400 block of Black Bayou #1 in Bloomington. Prior to deputies’ arrival, the suspect fled the scene, leading to a vehicle pursuit.

The suspect traveled northbound on Highway 185, entered the city limits, and ultimately crashed the vehicle at the intersection of North Street and Nelson Avenue. The suspect was reported to be displaying a firearm and refused to comply with deputies’ commands, resulting in a standoff. The suspect fired at deputies, and deputies returned fire.

The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.

At this time, there is no threat to the public, and no other injuries have been reported.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

This morning, Commissioners Court recognized January 9th as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and read a proclamation honoring the service and sacrifice of our local law enforcement officers.
