Accident at the Vidalia Port

VIDALIA— Vidalia police along with Vidalia fire and Concordia Parish Fire District #1 responded to the Vidalia Port on Wednesday at approximately 5:29 p.m. for a worker trapped in a grain conveyor. The worker succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Randy Oliver, 58, of Fayette.

“My heart goes out to the Oliver family during this trying time,” said Chief Joey Merrill.

ONE JUVENILE DEAD, ONE JUVENILE DETAINED

VIDALIA — Vidalia Police officers responded to a shooting call on Tuesday around 4:41 p.m.

A 15-year-old male juvenile was found suffering from a gunshot wound. A 14-year-old juvenile was detained at the scene. The gunshot victim was airlifted for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries at approximately 10:04 p.m. It appears from the initial investigation both juveniles were playing with a loaded gun when it discharged, striking the victim.

"I urge all parents to keep your fi****ms secured in a safe location at all times," said Chief Joey Merrill.

This is an active investigation; any further details maybe released at a later date.
