Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of emergency response in rural Ohio, playing a critical role in keeping our communities safe. If you’ve ever considered stepping up to serve, now’s your chance.
The Ohio Fire Academy (OFA) is offering a FREE Volunteer Firefighter Course, meeting all requirements set by the Ohio Administrative Code (O.A.C.).
Course Highlights:
36-hour Volunteer Firefighter awareness-level course
Fast-paced training over two weekends
Topics include ladders, ropes, ventilation, forcible entry, PPE, hoses, and water movement
Must attend the entire program to receive state certification
Course Dates:
August 14–16, 2026 (begins at 6pm on the 14th, 8:00am on the 15th and 16th)
August 21–23, 2026 (begins at 6pm on the 21st, 8:00am on the 22nd and 23rd)
Cost: Absolutely FREE!
Tuition, meals, course materials, and dormitory lodging are all provided at no cost.
Participants must bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
