A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for a large portion of the region, including Johnson County. Current forecasts indicate the potential for a significant winter event, with heavy snowfall, ice accumulation, and dangerously cold temperatures possible in parts of the affected area.
As we prepare for this system, we strongly encourage everyone to take steps BEFORE the storm arrives. Please ensure you have adequate food, water, medications, and other essential supplies. Power outages are possible, and planning ahead will help keep you and your family safe.
If you need to use alternative heating sources during a power outage, please choose options that are designed to be used safely indoors. Follow all manufacturer guidance, keep heating devices away from anything that can burn, and ensure your home has working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Never use outdoor equipment inside your home, garage, or enclosed spaces.
Some areas of Johnson County may become extremely difficult—or even impossible—to travel. If you do not need to be on the roads, please stay home. Avoiding unnecessary travel helps keep you safe and allows our first responders to focus on true emergencies.
We expect our dispatch center and deputies to be very busy throughout this event. We will respond to emergencies as conditions allow, but there may be locations that are inaccessible for extended periods of time. Please be patient; we will reach you as soon as we safely can, though delays may occur.
Above all, your safety is our priority. We care deeply about our community, and we would much rather you stay warm and secure at home than encounter danger on the roads.
Stay safe, Johnson County!
