NVTA CEO Monica Backmon joined Jason Stanford, President, Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance, and Katie Cristol, SVP of Government Relations, Metro Forward, for a panel discussion with the Lead VA cohort at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.✈

The conversation explored the importance of investing in Northern Virginia’s transportation network, how those investments benefit the entire Commonwealth, transportation funding, and the challenges and opportunities ahead.

🛣️Government Center Parkway in the City of Fairfax is now open!

NVTA is proud to have partnered with the City and Fairfax County, as well as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), contributing more than $3.5 million to extend the roadway from the County into the City, providing an alternative route parallel to Routes 29 and 50.

This new stretch emphasizes safety and multimodal connectivity by providing:
🚶‍♂️New sidewalks and marked pedestrian crossings
🚲 Dedicated on-road bike lanes
🚗 A raised median
🚦Improved signals

NVTA joined the City of Fairfax Government and partners on September 10 to mark the completion of Government Center Parkway. NVTA invested more than $3.5 million in Regional Revenue and Local Funds into this project, strengthening community connections and supporting safer travel for everyone who moves through the area. Every project NVTA funds moves our 📍 region closer to a shared vision of safer, more reliable ways for people to get where they’re going.

NVTA is immensely grateful for former Vice Chair Michelle Davis-Younger’s dedicated service to the Authority.

As she prepares to step down as Mayor of Manassas at the end of this month, the September Authority meeting marked her final evening on the Authority.

Throughout her tenure over six years, she has brought leadership, thoughtful judgment, and an unwavering commitment to advancing transportation solutions. On behalf of NVTA and the entire region, thank you, Mayor Davis-Younger, for your years of service, leadership and dedication. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!

Congratulations to NVTA CEO Monica Backmon who was nominated to serve on the American Public Transportation Association's Board of Directors! She was selected to serve a three-year term alongside esteemed transportation colleagues from across the nation. Nominees will be confirmed on October 3 during APTA's TRANSform Conference and Expo in Chicago.
