Today is the 36th anniversary of the '1990 Plainfield Tornado'. On August 28th, 1990, an EF-5 tornado came through Plainfield, Joliet, & Crest Hill, causing a 12-mile path of destruction, sadly claiming the lives of 29 and injuring an additional ~350. The Joliet Police Department, along with many other agencies, responded that day to help our community recover. We offer our condolences to the victims and their families, and are grateful for everyone who assisted in recovery efforts. This photo comes from our archives, and was taken after the tornado; you can see Joliet Police Department & Joliet Fire Department personnel assisting with recovery efforts.
