With summer break here, more children and teens are out enjoying golf carts, e-bikes, bicycles, scooters, and other motorized equipment throughout our neighborhoods. While it's great to see kids outside and active, it's important for everyone—both riders and drivers—to stay alert and follow the rules of the road.

🚦 Parents, please take time to review safe riding habits with your children:
✅ Stop at intersections before crossing.
✅ Look both ways and make eye contact with drivers when possible.
✅ Obey traffic signs and signals.
✅ Wear helmets when required.
✅ Avoid distractions such as phones and earbuds while riding.
✅ Never assume a vehicle sees you.

🚗 Drivers, please remember:
⚠️ E-bikes and golf carts can approach intersections much faster than pedestrians.
⚠️ Slow down in residential areas and near parks.
⚠️ Be extra cautious when turning at intersections or exiting side streets.
⚠️ Watch carefully for children who may unexpectedly enter roadways.

Summer should be filled with fun memories—not preventable accidents. A few extra seconds of awareness can make all the difference in keeping our community safe for everyone.

Let's work together to make this a safe and enjoyable summer for all! ☀️🚲⛳

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, the Viera East Community Development District pauses to honor the brave men and women who served our country and protected the freedoms we enjoy every day. ❤️🤍💙

Today, we remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage, service, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As our community gathers with family and friends this holiday weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor those who gave everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸

From all of us at Viera East CDD — thank you to all who have served and sacrificed.

Freedom is never free.

🐢🐊 A Friendly Florida Reminder: Please Don’t Feed Wildlife 🐊🐢

Living in Florida means sharing our beautiful environment with incredible wildlife — from gopher tortoises wandering through neighborhoods to alligators in ponds, lakes, and canals. While it may seem harmless or even kind to toss out food, feeding wild animals creates serious problems for both the animals and our communities.

Why you should NEVER feed wildlife:

🚫 Changes their natural diet – Wildlife are designed to survive on natural food sources. Human food can make them sick, malnourished, or dependent on handouts.

🚫 Creates dangerous behavior – Animals begin associating people with food. Gopher tortoises may repeatedly return to homes and roads, while alligators can lose their natural fear of humans — creating dangerous situations for children, pets, and neighbors.

🚫 Encourages dependency – Once wildlife learns food comes from people, they stop relying on natural instincts and become conditioned to human interaction.

🚫 Feeds more than the intended animal – Leftover food and crumbs don’t disappear. They attract rats, mice, raccoons, insects, and other unwanted scavengers.

🚫 Rodents become YOUR problem – Florida rats are experts at finding shelter. They can make homes in attics, crawl spaces, garages, covered grills, patio furniture, sheds, and screened porches. They build nests, chew wiring, and create costly problems for homeowners.

🚫 Increases disease risks – Concentrating animals around feeding areas can spread parasites and illnesses between wildlife and nearby pets.

🚫 Creates neighborhood issues – What starts in one yard can quickly affect surrounding homes and neighboring residents.

Florida wildlife is healthiest when it stays wild. The best way to appreciate these amazing animals is from a safe distance — enjoy them, photograph them, teach children about them, but let nature do what nature does best. ❤️🌴

If you care about wildlife, the kindest thing you can do is leave them wild.

🚗💛 Love Bug Season is Here, Florida! April – May This is the heaviest and most noticeable wave

If you’ve driven lately… you’ve probably already noticed them 😅
Those little love bugs may be harmless—but your car’s paint says otherwise!

Here’s how to protect your ride 👇

✨ Wax it up – This is your BEST defense! A good wax creates a barrier so bugs don’t stick directly to your paint.

🚿 Wash often – Don’t let them sit more than a day or two. A quick rinse goes a long way!

🧴 Use bug remover spray – Skip the scrubbing and let the right products do the work.

🧽 Never scrub dry bugs – Always soak first to avoid scratches!

🧺 Quick tip: A wet dryer sheet can help loosen them (just be gentle!)

⏰ Remember: the longer they sit, the more damage they can do to your paint!

Florida life comes with sunshine, palm trees… and love bugs 😂
Stay ahead of it and keep your car looking clean all season long ✨🚗

🚨 End-of-School Year Update 🚨

Good news BPS Fam🎉 Thanks to a full school year with no hurricane day closures, all required instructional minutes will be completed earlier than planned! Here's what that means for families:

💛The last day for students is Friday, May 22, 2026. (5/20-5/22/26 will be early release days for exams.) This also includes Challenger 7 Modified Year Round Schedule.

💚While teachers will still be working on May 26–27 for required planning days, students will not attend school on those dates.

💛Childcare services are being planned to begin earlier to help accommodate the additional days students will be off school. More details will be shared as plans are finalized.

💚Senior testing schedules and seniors’ last days of school are determined by each school and are based on graduation dates. Graduation dates are not changing. 🎓

💛All other end of school ceremonies, to include Kindergarten and 6th grade promotion assemblies, are determined by each school. Please contact your school to confirm dates have not changed.

Sunscreen ready. Backpacks optional. Summer mode: unlocked. 😎🎒

Residents,

Our lakes can naturally enter cycles that promote algae growth due to factors such as submerged vegetation, weather conditions, and nutrient buildup over time.

Management activities, such as controlling submerged plants, are necessary to maintain healthy shorelines and prevent overgrowth at the surface. However, when vegetation is treated, it can temporarily increase nutrient levels in the water as plants decompose. These nutrients—especially phosphorus—can contribute to algae growth.

It’s also important to understand that our lakes are decades old and have accumulated nutrients over many years. This is a natural process, and while it cannot be reversed, we can all help reduce additional inputs.

How residents can help:

v Keep grass clippings and yard waste out of lakes and storm drains

v Avoid feeding wildlife such as birds and fish

v Follow fertilizer guidelines and maintain proper setbacks from the water

Even small actions make a meaningful difference. For example, one pound of phosphorus can produce up to 500 pounds of algae.

Due to seasonal conditions, we are currently in a peak algae growth period. Ongoing treatments will continue on a regular basis to help manage and suppress algae levels across the lakes.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping protect the health and appearance of our community’s waterways.
