FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Villa Park, IL โ€” On June 3, 2026, at approximately 3:00 am, the Villa Park Police Department was investigating a catalytic converter theft when officers observed suspects actively committing additional thefts in the area.

Officers from the Villa Park Police Department, with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies, quickly coordinated efforts to apprehend the suspects. Upon attempting to stop the suspect vehicle, the occupants fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit, officers successfully deployed stop sticks, disabling both front tires of the fleeing vehicle. Despite the damaged tires, the vehicle continued for a short distance before ultimately coming to a stop. Several suspects were taken into custody during the initial response; however, one suspect remained outstanding.

Through the continued efforts of law enforcement personnel, the Elmhurst Police Department successfully located and took the outstanding suspect into custody. As a result, all suspects involved in this incident are now in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and determine the full scope of the suspectsโ€™ criminal activity. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

The Villa Park Police Department would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Elmhurst Police Department and all assisting agencies for their outstanding cooperation, professionalism, and dedication. Their assistance was instrumental in ensuring the safe apprehension of all suspects and the successful outcome of this investigation.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Villa Park Police Department.

SAFE 64 Traffic Safety Initiative Scheduled for June 4, 2026

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, law enforcement agencies from DuPage and Kane Counties will participate in the SAFE 64 Initiative, a coordinated traffic safety campaign along the Illinois Route 64 corridor.

Participating agencies will conduct high-visibility traffic enforcement and public education efforts aimed at reducing dangerous driving behaviors, increasing compliance with traffic laws, and improving roadway safety. Enforcement efforts will focus on violations commonly associated with serious crashes, including speeding, distracted driving, seat belt violations, and impaired driving.

The SAFE 64 Initiative is a proactive effort designed to prevent crashes before they occur through increased enforcement, public awareness, and regional cooperation among law enforcement agencies.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely, obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions, and ensure all occupants are properly restrained.

The goal of the SAFE 64 Initiative is simple: safer roadways for everyone who travels along the Route 64 corridor.

Juveniles Injured in Minor E-Bike Crash

On 5/29/26, at approximately 7:26p.m., officers responded to the area of Roosevelt Road and Michigan Avenue for a minor traffic crash involving two juveniles operating an electric bicycle. Both juveniles sustained what appeared to be minor injuries and were treated following the incident. The crash remains under investigation.

The Police Department would like to remind parents and guardians of the importance of ensuring that any electric bicycle or similar device operated by their children complies with Illinois law and is used safely. Riders should obey all traffic laws, wear appropriate safety equipment, and understand the operational limitations and legal requirements of the device they are using.

Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the type of electric bicycle or motorized device their child is operating, as certain devices may be subject to additional licensing, registration, and equipment requirements under Illinois law. Electric bicycles and similar devices can travel at significant speeds, and improper operation increases the risk of serious injury.

No further information is being released at this time.
