Homicide Investigation Arrests
September 8, 2023

Ville Plate Police Chief Al Perry Thomas reports on August 29, detectives from the Ville Platte Police Department began an active homicide investigation. During the course of the investigation, five male subjects were identified as suspects in relation to the disappearance and murder of Vonshonskee “Shonskee” Charles of Ville Platte whose body was located in an area outside of Ville Platte. One of the suspects, Shawn L. Thomas age 27 of Ville Platte turned himself in to the Ville Platte Police Department on Tuesday September 5. Shawn Thomas was charged with accessory after the fact for Second Degree Murder with his bond set at $250,000.
On Wednesday, September 6, a second suspect, Jared Lee Delvon Freeman age 31 of Ville Platte was apprehended in Los Angeles, California for an arrest warrant for second degree murder in connection with the “Shonskee” Charles murder case. He is currently awaiting extradition. Jared Freeman has a bond set at $5 million dollars.
The Swat Team from Avoyelles Parish came in Thursday at the invitation of the city police searching for the two remaining suspects wanted as accessories in connection with the murder case.
Any identified criminal charges are only allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. If anyone has any information in regards to this investigation, please contact Detective Sgt. Darrian Guillory with the Ville Platte City Police.
