Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

Dolly Parton built the program Dolly Parton's Imagination Library as a tribute to her father, a tenant farmer who couldn't read. She said that before he died in 2000, he told her the Imagination Library was probably the most important thing she'd ever done.
It started in 1995 in her home county in Tennessee, mailing books to about 1,700 kids. The model never changed: one hardcover picture book a month, addressed to the child by name, from birth to age 5, at no cost to the family. A kid enrolled from birth ends up with a personal library of around 60 books.
By the mid-2020s it had spread to five countries, and roughly 1 in 7 American children under 5 were getting a book in the mail every month. More than 3.5 million books go out every month, and the cumulative total passed 325 million this year. Parton often said fostering a love of reading was the achievement she was proudest of, ranking it above her music.
Parton died Tuesday, August 25,2026 in Nashville at 80. She's survived by six of her siblings. She has left. her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve. Thank you, Dolly for helping give the world a love of reading, inspiring others to chase their dreams and never quit learning. You have done so much, and I know your legacy will live on forever.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Summer Reading Program 2026 at the Turkey Creek Branch Library! 1st place in the 0-5 age group we have Rose Butler. 1st place in the 6-11 age group we have Scarlett Johnson. 1st place in the 12-17 age group we have Aston King. Congratulations to all our winners of the 2026 Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program. Thank you to all participants I am so proud of each and everyone of you. In total we read 1,030 books this summer. Thank you to the parents for bringing your children and supporting your local library.

Id like to give a shout out to all the kids that participated in the Summer Reading Program Turkey Creek Branch Library. In total there were 1,030 books read at the Turkey Creek Branch Library. I think that's pretty impressive. in just 8 weeks. Just want to give a huge Thank You to EVERYONE who came enjoyed the program and made Summer Reading a success.

Well I am happy to share what a wonderful Summer we have had at the Turkey Creek Branch Library. We did crafts and story hours. We saw the great magician Mitch Richard . Local author Gigi Guillory Fontenot who read her book and did crafts with the kids. We had a Ventriloquist Donna Lavergne. We also had Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries - Whooping Cranes foundation come out teach the kids about whooping cranes and did a super fun craft. We had The Andrus Family Petting Zoo come out and let us pet and play with the animal. We had an amazing Chef Danae Reddick with New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) who made cookies and cheese cake cups with the kids. Then to wrap it all up we had our Summer Reading Wrap Up Party we played bingo had a craft and had a special guest and local author Nikkolette Littleton and Jensen Littleton. Jensen read their book Bandit and the Boggy Bayou Festival. She also brought bookmarks for everyone and coloring sheets. We even wrapped it all up with ice cream for everyone. Its been an amazing summer and I am so proud to say you all kept our new children's room full and active this summer. Thank you all for coming Its been an absolutely amazing summer! I will be announcing the winners soon I will call the winners once their prizes get here. Also every child should be super proud this summer in Turkey Creek we had an incredible number of books read stay tuned I will be posting how may books we have read collectively this summer. Thank you all again I hope you enjoyed the summer as much as I did!
