At the Library October 25
As our annual Library Fest approaches the November 7th date, I’d like to share a few updates:

1. We have reached our maximum number of spaces allotted for authors, vendors, crafters, etc.to participate per Governor John Bell Edwards mandate to insure social distancing measures are in place for an outdoor event. We beat the deadline to sign up! Please accept our apologies but we have to follow these guidelines. Next year will be a whole different story and we will have a bigger festival in 2021!

2. We are requiring all participants (authors, vendors, crafters, cooks, etc) to wear a mask. We are also requiring festival-goers to wear masks, however, we recognize that this is a personal choice but masks will be offered to anyone who does not have one.

3. Our last two participants are: Vendor- Ginni’s General Store by Ginni Lawrence and Vendor: Total Outlook Hair Salon by Chericka Joubert

4. Vitalant Blood Services will be on site and they are now taking online registrations for blood donations. Note that they are offering COVID Antibody testing as well. Visit this site for more information and to register. You can also pick up information at the main library or at any branch: Vitalant.org (sponsor: EPL1)

5. The Friends of the Library will not be having a used book sale as all of the books were given away during the last few months of the continuing pandemic. We are also not accepting any donations due to quarantining protocol.

This Library Festival is free to all and we will require masks and social distancing for the duration. If you should have any questions please email [email protected] or call 337-363-1369 for information. Special features: Antique Appraiser Michael Wynn, Vitalant Blood Drive, surprise food from Lt. Governor Nungesser / Louisiana Seafood Commission, and KVPI Live from 10 am – noon! Our grant-funded performers will offer 4 performances each: 10 am, 11 am, and Noon & 1 pm. They are: Storyteller Sylvia Davis, Magician Mitch Richard & Musician/Storyteller Brian Sivils. These performers are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

Wednesday, October, 28th, the Mystery Book Club will meet at 10:30 am in the multipurpose room of the main library. New readers are always welcomed!

During the week of Oct. 26th – 31st, our annual “Ask-A-Lawyer” program will be offered via online appointments for private phone conversations with an attorney. This is a FREE resource offered by the Louisiana State Bar Association. Visit www.lsba.org for more information or contact a library near you.

Thursday, October 29th, our Books & Beyond Teen Club will enjoy a MOVIE (tba) in the multipurpose room of the main library from 3:30 -5:30 pm. New members are welcomed.

The staff genuinely appreciates the never-ending understanding, patience and support it continues to receive from all patrons! Mark your calendar for the main library in Ville Platte’s annual LIBRARY FEST on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 10 am until 2 pm on the grounds of the main library! Social distancing and mask wearing will be included in the planning. Unfortunately, the Friends of the Library will NOT be offering their usual used book sales because we gave all of the inventory away during the recent COVID 19 period. To hold your spot as an author, vendor, crafter, etc., a Participation Form is required. Please pick up your form at any library branch around the parish. The deadline to get your form in is October 30th. This festival is free for the public and vendors will not be charged to sell or promote their products. I am delighted to share that we will have three state grant-funded performers who will delight kids and adults alike: Storyteller Sylvia Davis, Magician Mitch Richard and Musician/Storyteller Brian Sivils. Additionally, we have invited the awesome antique appraiser, Michael Wynn, to join us again, Vitalant (United Blood Services) will be onsite for blood donors, we have a surprise to share soon from Lt. Governor Nungesser, and KVPI will be live from 10 am – noon! Keep an eye out for updates. Next week I will begin bragging about our authors, vendors, and crafters!

The Basile Branch library will again host its French Coffee Talk on Tuesday, October 13th @ 9:00 am! Please spread the word!! Mask are required for all programming inside of the library.

The Books & Beyond Teen Club will be making Bath Salts on October 22 @ 4 pm in the multipurpose room at the main library in Ville Platte. Masks are required.

The Friends of the Library have donated Kindle Fire Ereading devices to each library around the parish with the goal of making online access to books more available to our patrons. Each branch manager will let their patrons know how they can have access to the Ereader device in their library. We thank the Friends for their continued support!

The Ville Platte main library meeting rooms are opened again but with limited occupancy and a requirement of wearing masks. In our multipurpose room the following groups can begin to meet again: The French Table group meets on Mondays @ 3pm; the Quilters meet on Thursdays at 1 pm; the Crochet group meets on Wednesdays at 4 pm; the Mystery Book Club meets the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am. We are so happy to be able to invite these groups back to the way it was before COVID 19!

Send your "I love Ville Platte" photos into the KVPI page and we'll be including as many of them as possible in our video! We've done songs for Eunice, Opelousas, and New Iberia and now our focus is on Ville Platte. Help us out and be part of the fun! This is our first fundraiser for 2020 and it's going to be totally unique! We have partnered with a few awesome artists with rockers to create the first "Rockin' on Main" auction event that will last a month! It will kickoff on October 29th and wrap up the first weekend in December. Details are coming soon! 👍🤛 This rocker art was done by Stephen Hawkins. I would like to say a public thank you to the wonderful people at the Evangeline Parish Library. I live in Indiana and recently requested help with a file held at the library. I have been very impressed with how helpful Mary, the person who has been working with me, has been.
