*** A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for...
* Port Mansfield, TX to Cameron, LA including Baffin Bay, Corpus Christi Bay, Copano Bay, Aransas Bay, San Antonio Bay, Matagorda Bay, Galveston Bay, Sabine Lake and Calcasieu Lake
*** A Hurricane Watch is in effect for...
* Port Aransas Texas to High Island Texas
*** A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...
* South of Port Aransas Texas to the Mouth of the Rio Grande
* East of High Island Texas to Morgan City Louisiana

Hurricane conditions are possible within the hurricane watch area by late Monday or Monday night, with tropical storm conditions possible by late Sunday. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the tropical storm watch area along the upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coast as early as tonight and along the south Texas coast late Sunday.

At 7 a.m. CDT, the caenter of Tropical Storm Beta was located about 290 miles (470 km) east of the mouth of the Rio Grande and about 270 miles (435 km) southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Beta is moving toward the north near 8 mph (13 km/h). A slow westward motion is expected to begin late today, with a slow northwestward motion forecast to begin late Sunday and continue through late Monday. On the forecast track, the center of Beta will slowly approach the Texas coast into early next week.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km) from the center. Slow strengthening is forecast to take place, and Beta is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday.

The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...
- Port Mansfield, TX to Cameron, LA including Baffin Bay, Corpus Christi Bay, Copano Bay, Aransas Bay, San Antonio Bay, Matagorda Bay, Galveston Bay, Sabine Lake, and Calcasieu Lake...2-4 ft
- Mouth of the Rio Grande, TX to Port Mansfield, TX...1-3 ft
- Cameron, LA to Morgan City, LA incl. Vermilion Bay...1-3 ft

There is an increasing risk of significant rainfall and flooding along the Texas and Louisiana coasts Sunday through at least the middle of next week as Beta is forecast to move slowly near the Texas coast. For additional information, see products from your local National Weather Service office - www.weather.gov

The next complete advisory will be issued by NHC at 10 a.m. CDT - www.hurricanes.gov

Sally is a tropical storm, and is expected to become a category one hurricane before landfall in southeast Louisiana late Monday or early Tuesday.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Vermilion, Iberia, St. Mary, and St. Martin Parishes. This area could see wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph late Monday and Tuesday. Expect scattered power outages, toppled trees, and some roof damage in these areas.

Rainfall projections are 1-3 inches for south central Louisiana. Minor coastal flooding is expected during high tides on Monday.

Be aware that some of the trees left standing after Hurricane Laura are quite vulnerable. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph could blow down some of these trees and/or damage tarps on our roofs.

BECI MEMBERS IN EVANGELINE, JEFF DAVIS, RAPIDES AND VERNON PARISH:

We are asking members in these parishes, EVANGELINE, JEFF DAVIS, RAPIDES and VERNON, who are still without power to call our office at 1-800-367-0275. We are beginning to repair service and tap lines that will restore power to individual homes and businesses in this area. Prior to Hurricane Laura, BECi’s updated meter infrastructure was able to tell us if a meter was out, but part of this communication system is not fully functional after the hurricane. We want to make sure that no member is left behind. Power restoration will still take several days in this area, but we ask our members to call our office and let us know if you are still without power. 1-800-367-0275

After a few relatively dry days, the humidity returns in force today as temperatures rise back into the lower 90s. The combination of heat and humidity will push "feels like" temperatures over 100 degrees, increasing danger for western Acadiana and the west portion of Central Louisiana parishes with continued widespread power outages. Six persons perished in similar heat last week this time; don't be a victim today. Hydrate often and follow these safety tips.

PINEVILLE, La. – Sept. 7, 2020 – As of 4 p.m., Cleco had restored power to 93 percent, or 130,432, of the 140,000 customers affected by Hurricane Laura.

“We have received reports from customers of fraudulent phone calls which is not unusual when there’s a natural disaster like Hurricane Laura,” said James Lass, director of distribution operations and emergency management. “Scammers use unprecedented events to prey on us when we’re preoccupied. As we continue to restore power, we’re reminding customers to be on alert for fraudulent phone calls, text messages and emails, as well as in-person scammers posing as Cleco representatives.”

Cleco will never initiate calls to demand immediate payment, and customer service representatives will never ask customers to pay with a pre-paid card.

Customers should be aware of these common utility scams:
• Disconnection Deception
Scammers call threatening disconnection of your service unless you make an immediate payment with a pre-paid card.
• Overpayment Tactic
Scammers call claiming you overpaid your bill, and you need to provide your personal bank account information or a credit card number to facilitate a refund.
• Vacate Your Home
Scammers claim there is a need to replace your meter or other equipment, and you must leave your home for 72 hours.
• Power Restoration Charge
Scammers call offering to restore your electricity more quickly for a fee after a severe storm.
• Identification Attack
Rather than directing victims to call a 1-800 number, the scammers direct callers to press 1 to collect more data in an attempt to get your personal information.
How Cleco customers can protect themselves:
• Hang up the phone immediately
Do not call back the number given by the caller. Cleco customers can reach a Cleco representative by calling 1-800-622-6537 or reaching out through Cleco’s official page at @ClecoPower. Also, customers can verify account information through the company’s online customer account management service, MyAccount.
• Delete deceptive emails
• Shut the door on scammers
Cleco service personnel will always wear clothing that clearly identifies them as Cleco employees. Cleco contractors also should be able to produce a photo identification card which clearly identifies them as a Cleco contractor.
