Updated numbers from yesterday. We are down to 151 books still checked out! There are no fines for lost or damaged books this year. Miss L can fix a lot of damaged books so even if they’re damaged please bring them in. If they are lost, an adult just needs to let Miss L know and she will take it out of the system.

Turning books in allows for more funds to go to bringing in new book titles into the library. When we lose a large amount of our collection funds have to go to replacing what we already owned. Thank you for helping keep the library available for all students for years to come!

Hi folks,

We still have 171 library books checked out! As many have probably heard, this is my last year at Vinalhaven School. To make the transition smooth for the next librarian we need as many of our books back as possible so that I can complete an inventory of our collection before I leave. If you know a book is long gone please message me and I will add it to the order list for next year and take it out of the count.

Additionally,our library software had a massive update in the past two months. I’m realizing this caused a glitch in assigning some books to students who never had them. If you know this to be the case, again please message me so I can make note of it. I’m trying to track how many glitches we had so I can communicate it to the program developers.

Thank you for letting me work with your students! They are such a joy and I know I will be around to visit again. 💜

It has been an amazing school year! So many active readers in our school. The last day of book checkouts will be on June 5. Books can hide everywhere so please keep your eyes peeled for any and all library books! All books will be due back on June 15. Thank you for helping keep our library full for all students.

With Spring right around the corner, I'm sure you will be starting your spring cleaning just like I will!

As you clean, please help your students keep their eyes peeled for any school library books that may have made themselves comfortable in your home over the winter! The best way to keep our library sustainable for years to come is to work hard with our students to be responsible and return their books. We are reviewing it during library times, but extra help is always appreciated!

Hello families,

Did you receive a overdue book slip and think to yourself, “ My student returned this book this morning?”. If so, please don’t panic! Sometimes between me printing notices in the evening and them actually making it home some books are returned and I don’t always have the chance to pull the slips or cross off a certain title. If there are books that are listed as lost on a slip, I need to keep them under the student name till the end of the year for tracking circulation numbers of our library. I am still working through our software to pull reports of our library and it’s collection, so I cannot clear lost books yet. But it will eventually happen!

When these slips are sent home your students are not in trouble! I cannot stress this enough, and I make sure to let the kids know as well. It is just to help everyone know what books they have, that needs to make its way back to the library or be renewed. We as a school are working on building a sustainable collection that will continue to benefit our students for many years. Part of that sustainability is making sure books make their way back to the school so other students can use them as well.

No matter what condition they are in, please send them back. I can repair quite a bit and need to make the call on when to replace a book by evaluating the damage in person. There is no charge this year for lost or damaged books. We just need to know what happened to them.
