FLOODED ROAD & HIGH WATER REPORTS

Knox County, Indiana

⚠️ Turn Around — Don’t Drown ⚠️

Heavy rainfall, river flooding, and flash flooding can quickly make roads unsafe and impassable across Knox County. Even shallow water covering a roadway can hide washouts, debris, or dangerous current conditions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor flooded roadway conditions and high water reports using the official Knox County GIS Mapping System:

https://knoxin.wthgis.com

🌐 Flooded Road & High Water Map:
Knox County GIS Flooded Road Reports

The GIS system may display:

* Flooded road closures
* High water locations
* Temporary roadway hazards
* Creek, stream, and river overflow impacts
* Areas affected by heavy rainfall events

Much of Knox County naturally drains toward the Wabash River and White River systems through an extensive network of creeks, streams, and drainage ditches. During periods of prolonged rainfall, conditions can change rapidly.

Flood Safety Reminders

* Never drive around barricades or through flooded roads.
* Just 6 inches of moving water can knock a person down.
* As little as 12 inches of water can carry away most vehicles.
* Conditions may worsen after dark when water depth is difficult to judge.
* Monitor local weather alerts and emergency notifications.

For emergency alerts and warnings, residents are encouraged to register for county notifications through Knox County’s emergency communication systems.

Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

— Knox County Joint Information Center (JIC)

As noted by the National Weather Service Indianapolis office, flooded roadways in Knox County are marked on the county GIS map during flooding events.

Knox County EMA will conduct the monthly test of the outdoor warning sirens this morning at 11:30 AM.

This is a routine test only. No action is needed.

As a reminder, outdoor warning sirens are intended to alert people who are outdoors to go inside and seek additional information. They are not designed to be heard reliably inside homes, businesses, vehicles, or other buildings.

Knox County EMA may activate outdoor warning sirens for the following conditions:

• A Tornado Warning issued for any part of Knox County
• Radar-indicated tornadic debris
• A reliable report confirming a funnel cloud or tornado
• A Severe Thunderstorm Warning with a “Destructive” damage threat tag, meaning damaging winds of at least 80 mph and/or hail of 2.75 inches, approximately baseball size

Outdoor warning sirens are a supplemental warning method and should not be used as your primary or only source of emergency information. Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive alerts, including Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio, local media, and trusted weather or emergency notification apps.

Thank you for your assistance and awareness during today’s test.
