📦 The Cardboard Rush Is Coming...

And around here, we know a thing or two about cardboard! 😅

What you're seeing in these photos is part of the work that happens behind the scenes after you bring your cardboard to Knox County Recycling.

With online shopping and the holiday season approaching, we know even more boxes will soon be making their way through our facility.

That's why we need your help:

♻️ Please break down and flatten ALL cardboard boxes before bringing them to us.

Flattened cardboard takes up less space, is easier for our team to handle, and helps us keep material moving through the facility more efficiently.

So when those deliveries start showing up on your porch:

📦 Open it.
📦 Empty it.
📦 Flatten it.
♻️ Bring it to us.

A few seconds at home makes a real difference for the team processing it here.

Thank you for helping us keep things moving!

♻️ There's a Reason “Recycle” Comes Third

We've all heard it:
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

But have you ever thought about why they're in that order?
⬇️ REDUCE what we use and the waste we create.
🔄 REUSE what we already have whenever we can.
♻️ RECYCLE materials when we're finished with them.

Recycling is important, but preventing waste in the first place can be even better.
Before throwing something away or even putting it in the recycling bin, ask yourself:

Can I use this again? Could someone else use it?

Sometimes the most sustainable item is the one that never becomes waste at all.

🍂🧹 Cleaning Out the Garage This Fall?

It's that time of year—summer equipment is getting put away, garages and sheds are getting cleaned out, and we're all wondering why we've kept some of this stuff for so long. 😅

Before everything automatically heads for the trash, take a second look.

That old container, leftover automotive product, forgotten can of paint, burned-out bulb, old electronic device, or other item you've uncovered may need a different disposal option.

If you're not sure what to do with it, ask us before you toss it.

Knox County Recycling can help with many of the items that tend to accumulate in garages, sheds and basements. If we don't accept something, we'll do our best to point you in the right direction.

Clean out the clutter without automatically filling the trash can. ♻️

🚗♻️ Our Recycling Tunnel Has Been Revamped!
If you haven't visited our Vincennes facility recently, things may look a little different the next time you pull in!

We've rearranged several of our collection bins and our Household Hazardous Waste intake area to help improve the flow through our recycling tunnel.

Don't worry—we're still accepting the same materials as before! We've simply changed where some things are located.

There is one important change we need your help with:
🛑 When entering the tunnel, please pull ALL THE WAY FORWARD until you reach the STOP SIGNS.

Pulling forward allows more residents to safely enter the facility at the same time and helps our attendants keep traffic and unloading moving efficiently.

This will become especially important as colder weather arrives. During the winter, we plan to keep the tunnel door closed when possible to help keep some heat inside the bay for our recycling attendants.

🚗 Pull all the way in.
🛑 Stop at the signs.
♻️ Our team will help from there!

Thank you for helping us make the recycling tunnel safer and more efficient for everyone!

🍂 Doing a Little Fall Cleaning?

Fall seems to be the season when garages, sheds, basements, and closets finally get some attention.

Before everything you clean out automatically heads for the trash, take a second look!

You may have items Knox County Recycling can help you recycle or properly dispose of, including:

📦 Cardboard
📄 Paper
🫙 Glass
🥫 Cans
🎨 Paint
🛢️ Used motor oil
💡 Fluorescent bulbs
💻 Electronics
🧴 Aerosol cans
…and more!

If you come across something you're not sure about, ask us before you throw it away. We're happy to help you figure out the right place for it.

Happy fall cleaning, Knox County! 🍂♻️

🎄 Wait... You Recycle WHAT?

Here's one you may not expect:

✨ CHRISTMAS LIGHTS! ✨

Yes, Knox County Recycling accepts old Christmas light strands for recycling.

So when you pull out the holiday decorations this year and discover that tangled strand of lights that only works when you hold the cord just right... 😅

Don't throw it away!

Set those old lights aside and bring them to Knox County Recycling.

We accept more than just the everyday cans, bottles, paper and cardboard you might normally think of when you hear “recycling.”

And we'll keep showing you some of the surprising things you can bring our way! ♻️
