What in the Slime Mold is Slime Mold?
Most common in taller mown turf, slime mold can occur on any species of turfgrass. Is Slime Mold infectious? Nope! The spores are purely cosmetic and will not harm humans, pets or livestock. Outbreaks of slime mold are normally brief, lasting one or two weeks, and coincide with wet weather and high levels of organic matter.
Slime mold can range in colors including yellow and orange to
purple and gray. The bright colored mold usually appears for only a few days before it turns gray or black and becomes powdery.
No need to apply fungicide or other chemical treatments.
Simply use your water hose to wash the fungus from plant surfaces. You can also use a rake to break up the mold during dry weather.
