Twenty students successfully completed our initial sUAS Pilot Course this week at the District 14 Office in Somerset, culminating in IFSAC accreditation testing today.
While the classroom and practical portions on February 16th and 17th covered aircraft components, flight operations, mission planning, emergency procedures, and real world public safety applications, the true milestone was earning the opportunity to test for IFSAC accredited certification. That accreditation represents more than simply finishing a class. It reflects a internationally recognized professional standard for small unmanned aircraft system operations within the fire service.
The testing process required students to demonstrate both knowledge and practical competency. Accreditation through IFSAC ensures that the training meets established benchmarks and that those who pass have met a measurable standard, not just attendance. For departments building or strengthening their sUAS programs, that credential provides credibility, accountability, and consistency.
We are proud of these 20 students for committing to the full process, including the accreditation component. Their success strengthens not only their individual qualifications, but the operational readiness of departments across our region. Congratulations to each of you on completing the initial sUAS course and stepping forward with a internationally recognized credential.
