Good afternoon Meade County. As we all know, it’s prom day. I hope everyone going to, or involved with prom has a wonderful and safe time. That being said, I know that there is going to be after parties. Please don’t go out and do anything you are not supposed to be doing. While I don’t condone under age drinking, I know that it’s going to happen. Please don’t drink and drive. As stated before, have a great, and safe prom.

Press Release
April 10, 2026

On April 10, 2026, a transport vehicle from Spencer County was bringing an inmate from another county to Nelson County due to active warrants.

Upon arrival at the Nelson County Correctional Center, and prior to entering the facility, the inmate exited the transport vehicle and fled the area on foot.

At no point was the inmate in the custody of the Nelson County Correctional Center, nor was he being transported by Nelson County Deputies.

The individual has been identified as Jawan McKnight. A photo is attached to this release. This mugshot provided is from a previous booking. If you see this individual, DO NOT APPROACH — CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.

Dispatch and local law enforcement are aware of the situation, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the individual. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available and when the inmate is reapprehended.

This incident highlights an ongoing concern regarding facility infrastructure. The Nelson County Correctional Center, constructed in 1987, does not have a sally port—a secure, enclosed garage area that allows law enforcement to safely unload inmates before entering the facility. Modern detention centers utilize sally ports to help prevent situations like this from occurring.

Good evening Meade County. As we get closer to election time, you are going to see and hear a lot of posts, signs, tv & radio ads, saying “Vote For Me” all around the area. I ask that you get out and vote. Make your voice heard in the local government election. These are the people that will be running the City, County, and State. Do your research on which individuals you want to vote for. Look at the ones who are currently in office, and ask yourself is that person the right fit for that office? Every elected official swears to uphold the constitution, yet there are some once in office disregard that oath quietly due to political favors with other officials. I hate to say that but there is truth to it. We have all seen it somewhere at some point in time. Almost every candidate is always “about the voters” around election time, and then after elected, or re-elected they tend to fall back on what they said in their campaign. I, as a republican have friends in the Republican Party, as well as the Democratic Party. Again I just ask that we all do our own research, and not rely on what you hear, or what a good friend or family member says. Don’t vote for someone just because they are already in that political office already. Vote for the right person for the job. Only us voters can make the change we all complain about. I am running for re-election as district 3 Constable to serve my community. If you have any questions feel free to reach out and ask. If I can’t answer your questions or concerns I will try to reach out to see if I can get you an answer or see if I know someone to put you in contact with someone who knows.

🚨 WHY IS HB 684 BEING HELD UP? 🚨
Let’s stop pretending this is normal!
Kentucky HB684 is sitting in Frankfort right now, and committee leadership won’t even bring it to the floor for a vote, YET.

Not passed.
Not rejected.
Just… ignored.

Meanwhile, other bills with far less impact are moving right through the process.

So I’ll ask the question a lot of you are already thinking:

Why not this one?

HB684 is about:
✔ Training standards for constables
✔ Clear authority as peace officers
✔ Real oversight through the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council
✔ Consistency across ALL counties

This isn’t some back-burner issue.
This affects public safety, accountability, and how local law enforcement operates.

This is bigger than one bill!!
If lawmakers can just refuse to bring something to a vote, then what voice do the people really have?

Agree with it or not, that’s NOT the point.
👉 The point is: LET IT BE VOTED ON.

Here’s where you come in:
📣 Call your state representative
📣 Message them
📣 Comment on their pages

Ask them ONE question:
“Why hasn’t HB684 been brought to a vote?”

That’s it. No politics. No spin. Just accountability.
We don’t need to agree on everything.
But we should ALL agree on this:

Silence is not leadership.
Avoiding a vote is not representation.

Let. It. Be. Voted. On.
