Over the last week, members completed annual driver competency objectives including parallel parking of the apparatus, alley back, serpentine, lane change and the diminishing straightaway. The apparatus is only useful if it arrives in one piece.

Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Tonight as part of our training, members took advantage of an acquired structure to practice ladder placement, roof ventilation techniques along with hose line deployment. Training at acquired structures is performed in coordination with the Vineland Fire Department training division.

📢🚨 Instructor Spotlight: Cody Trestrail 📢🚨

Founder and instructor of nationally and internationally recognized training company Brothers In Battle, LLC, Cody began his fire service career in 1995 with a small combination department in Washington State. Following his dream of serving with the FDNY, Cody was hired by the New York City Fire Department and assigned to Ladder 119 in Brooklyn. He later became a member of the FDNY’s Special Operations Command (SOC), where he served with Squad 1 in Brooklyn.

After leaving the FDNY to put his family first, Cody returned to his home region and now serves on a busy engine company in the Portland metropolitan area. Cody has dedicated his career to sharing practical, experience-based fireground knowledge with firefighters across the country and around the world.

VES: Beyond The Door -

A lecture that challenges firefighters to look beyond the traditional checklist approach to Vent-Enter-Search. This class goes beyond simply searching the room immediately beyond the entry point. Cody will examine real-world incidents, public expectations, and the critical size-up process that determines what tools to bring, where to begin the search, and how to continue searching beyond the initial room when conditions allow. Students will explore split-search strategies designed to put victims first, including rapidly searching bedrooms and other areas where occupants are most likely to be found—regardless of the time of day. The class will also address the critical decisions firefighters face after locating victims, including when to isolate in place versus remove the victim, and the techniques necessary to safely accomplish both.
