Yesterday Luce's Playreaders at the COA, participants enjoyed a reading of 'Casablanca', the beloved 1942 film classic.

Set during World War II, the story follows nightclub owner Rick Blaine as he navigates love, sacrifice, and moral courage when a
former romance unexpectedly reenters his life.

The audience reaction was warm and enthusiastic, with attendees enjoying the story’s memorable characters, timeless themes, and enduring appeal and bursting into La Marseilles on cue.

Dear Kat,

Your classes have been about so much more than yoga. You have created a space where we could slow down, breathe, stretch, strengthen, and simply be ourselves. Through the years, you have touched countless lives, one class and one breath at a time.

As you prepare for your last class on Friday, August 28th, we want you to know how deeply grateful we are. Thank you for your years of dedication, encouragement, patience, and joy. Thank you for every thoughtful cue, every challenging pose, every moment of stillness—and for making us feel like we belonged.

While we will certainly miss having you as our instructor, the practice and community you helped build will remain with us.

With gratitude, love, and many namastes,

At the request of the Board of the Up Island Council on Aging (known colloquially as the Howes House), Nancy Cabot began convening a watercolor painting group at the Howes House every Friday, year ‘round, in 2001.

It was never advertised as a painting class because Nancy, recently retired as an art teacher, wanted to paint with the group not teach. All of the painters offer helpful suggestions to one another and criticism when requested. The group mounts a show and sale once a year in late June.

There is no charge for attendance. Painters bring their own materials, usually watercolors but occasionally acrylics, pencil, or charcoal. Oil paints are not allowed because of the solvents required which are harmful to some when inhaled.

Anyone is welcome to join the group which meets every Friday afternoon (except on holidays which fall on a Friday) from 1:00 until 3:30.

Martha's Vineyard Mah Jongg has partnered with the Center for Living to host the 1st Martha's Vineyard Mah Jongg Tournament on the island. Save the date- Saturday, Oct 17th.

The focus of this tournament is to be a fun, community building event where you will meet and play with others on the island. It's not about the prizes though we felt we needed to offer some.

You'll meet some old friends and make some new ones. It's a fundraiser for a great and increasingly important community organization.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring the Martha's Vineyard Mah Jong community together. We hope you will join us!
