During last week's Blizzard, we had a lot of help from the community. We are so grateful for the support!

A heartfelt thanks to our two local fire departments, police departments, and EMTs for their prompt, professional assistance.

We have found we can always count on them, and that is very reassuring, especially during a blizzard. Thank you to Cronig's Market for generously donating food during the storm to residents who were relocated and to Mary and Ray Gosselin for delivering the food.

To the Mansion House staff for their kindness and attention to our residents. Their support made a real difference. Thank you to Cole Powers, IEH President, who was in touch with me throughout the storm and afterwards, lending a hand wherever he could.

Most importantly, thank you to our residents. Your patience, cooperation, and kindness toward one another—and toward our staff– did not go unnoticed. Emergencies are never easy, but the way you looked out for one another truly reflects the strength of this community.

Thank you to the Martha's Vineyard Museum for coming to educate our residents on the Priscilla Pearl Company and the history of Martha’s Vineyard during the 1920s.

Did you know Priscilla Pearls were faux-pearls created from the surplus of herring available on Martha’s Vineyard at that time?

We had such a warm and uplifting holiday season, we hope you did too! Our residents were treated to a number of visits from our local community partners and we are most appreciative!

The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School - MVRHS Minnesingers visited Island Elderly Housing and performed a variety of holiday and classical songs 🎶 for our residents. Thanks to the high school students who performed some lovely songs for our community.

The Martha's Vineyard Community Services preschool students walked over to our Woodside 1 campus to sing a holiday song for residents! Thanks to Martha's Vineyard Community Services for visiting our residents and spreading holiday joy ✨ throughout our community.

Two groups of high school students brought little holiday gift bags 🎁 and cards for our residents. Residents were touched by the gifts with one resident sharing that it had been a while since he'd had a candy cane and was surprised to find one waiting outside his door. Thank you to the high school and its students for arranging the sweet surprise for our residents!

Additionally, Island Elderly Housing staff hosted residents and guests for our annual Holiday Tea 🫖 event. Staff made various sweet and savory treats, including gingerbread cookies, empanadas, peanut butter blossom cookies, banana bread, hot cider, and, of course, tea.

We were also grateful to be joined by talented local musicians 🎶 who performed for the residents. Thank you to W***y Mason, the Alpha Gals, and everyone else who helped arrange their performance at the event!

The Martha's Vineyard Museum visited with our residents to share information and artifacts about the various lighthouses 🌟 on the island.

Our residents were informed of the history of the lighthouses, their function, and features, including how the lights work and how the role of lighthouses has evolved over the years. Residents had a chance to discuss and ask questions throughout the talk and left feeling inspired and empowered with their knowledge of these important structures!
