17 MINUTES.

Today, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a man was in trouble on the Cedar River after his boat overturned. He was stuck in a log jam, surrounded by a fast-moving current. There was no time to waste.

From the moment our Communications Center received the phone call to the moment the Sheriff’s Office rescue boat was on the water:
17 MINUTES.

In a water rescue, every minute matters. Every decision matters. And today, teamwork mattered.
Our personnel worked together to get the boat deployed, reach the man, and successfully bring him to safety.

Today was one of those days that reminds us why preparation, the right equipment, and a team willing to jump into action are so important.
When the call came, everyone had a job to do, and they did it.

17 minutes from a phone call to a boat in the water.
One successful rescue.
One man going home safely.

That’s a pretty good day.

Special thanks to our Communications Center, Sheriff Upah and Chief Deputy Karsten for swiftly coordinating the response for the rescue boat. Another extra special thank you to Captain Lynch who was off duty at the time of the call but acted quick and drove the boat and performed the rescue, and to our EMA Director Dean for joining him and for the great assist.
