Take Back Day

Did you know? Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove medications. Flushing them may unintentionally impact our local waterways and harm the environment.

The DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day is tomorrow, 10/24. Find a participating location near you at takebackday.dea.gov.

While this day is a great reminder to properly dispose of unwanted medicines, you don’t need a special day to drop off unwanted prescription medicines. Virginia Beach residents can take unwanted prescription medicines to any of the drop off boxes located in every Virginia Beach Police precinct lobby. These drop off boxes are anonymous and available 365 days a year.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and anonymous means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications.

We rely on water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, bathing and now more than ever, we are keenly aware of its support of public health. Preventing the spread of COVID-19 depends on handwashing and social distancing; two things made possible in part by tap water and the infrastructure systems maintained by our region's water and wastewater workers.

➡️Here's where YOU come in. Let's shower our local water workers and other essential personnel with love this week! Like this post 👍 then tag an essential worker in the comments below to say thank you for all they do. On Friday, one winner will be selected and both the commenter AND the nominated essential worker will each win a PAIR of 10 oz YETI Tumblers perfect for all your fall outings and winter festivities!

Here's the fine print: One entry per household. Must be a Hampton Roads resident to win. Prizes will be mailed to winners following verification of address. If winner does not respond within five days, a new winner will be selected.

Fire hydrants can come in many colors, but it’s not for decoration! Public Utilities and the Fire Department will begin to repaint public fire hydrants throughout the City later this month. The hydrants will all have yellow bodies, and the different cap colors will signify the hydrant’s flow rate. These are color codes set by the National Fire Protection Agency to ensure continuity across City lines. The repainting process is expected to take approximately three years to complete.

Public Utilities and the Fire Department will begin to repaint public fire hydrants throughout the City in late July. The hydrants will all have yellow bodies, and the different cap colors will signify the hydrant’s flow rate. These are color codes set by the National Fire Protection Association to ensure continuity across City lines. The repainting process is expected to take approximately three years to complete.

Our offices will be closed tomorrow, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. For water and sewer emergencies during this time, please call 311. Otherwise, we will be happy to assist you when reopen on Monday.

In keeping with Governor Northam's declaration yesterday designating Juneteenth (Friday, June 19) as a state holiday, Mayor Dyer has declared Friday a City holiday. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 that enslaved people in Galveston, TX, the last of the former Confederate states to abolish slavery, heard that the Civil War had ended and learned that the Emancipation Proclamation had made them free nearly two years earlier.

We have been notified that some customers have received calls from someone claiming to work for the City. The caller advises that Public Utilities will be turning the customer’s water off imminently for non-payment and requests payment over the phone.

We are not currently turning customers’ water service off for delinquency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We urge residents to never give personal or banking information to an unverified or unsolicited caller.

Seriously, you send me a delinquent bill for $26 and change? I paid my bill in full the first of April... don't know how I could be delinquent! You could have just added it to next month's billing instead of wasting money to mail a $26 delinquent notice! I'm going to have to go over my previous bills to see where I owe this! Jesus Jimny Cricket! LOL!
You phone lines are inop. I called the 757 number and 1866 number. They just keep hanging up.
Is public utilities and sanitation doing any kind of disconnection suspension for non payment while people can't work?
I live on Depaul way and our recycling was not picked up July 12 2019. Are they picking up on Saturday?
There is a sewer plate at the corner of Chestwood Drive and Bald Eagle Drive that has lost a part of it’s metal rim and is collapsing into the road.
Thinking about the amazing staff in Public Utilities! 💙
VB utilities makes me hate this city.
What drugs are these people on? How the heck is my bill so high when I'm out from 8:30 am to about 9-9:30 pm. I'm so sick of being robbed by VB. This city is corrupt & money hungry. They don't care about the citizens of VB. Disgraceful city. Water bill NEEDS to be lowered IMMEDIATELY......
Keep getting an error when paying my bill online
Stop ripping off the poor. I'm so sick of being overcharged for not being home all day & get these big bills for what? I Don't have money to throw away. Dispicable money hungry monsters. I have to borrow to pay what I've already paid. They double dip & I've had enough of being robbed. These people are Money hungry monsters. I paid $150 & these scumbags still turned off my water. They are going to hell. How dare them G-D will punish them VA BEACH utilities SUCK. They would probably shut the water off on a dying person. They have NO respect. Absolute LOSERS.What goes around comes around.
It would be REALLY nice if since the city has gone to once a month water billing, that you would have it on THE SAME DATE each month. I just paid a water bill due on December 3rd, now I have another one due on 12/27/2017. IN CASE YOU CAN'T DO MATH - THAT'S TWO - YES TWO - IN ONE MONTH. Why didn't you just stay with bimonthly billing? This is ridiculous. Because now I'm still paying almost $200 IN ONE MONTH to cover two months. How is that helping me budget? (Which was your reasoning for doing this to begin with).
Why is there no
