This repair is expected to be completed by 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sep. 27; weather permitting.

Traffic Alert: An emergency sewer repair will result in the closure of N Lynnhaven Road between Virginia Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Sep. 19. Area residents and businesses will have access to their properties at all times. This repair is expected to be completed by 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sep. 20; weather permitting.

Have questions or concerns about your drinking water? We’re listening.

At last night’s City Council meeting, a resident used the public comment period to raise concerns about the safety of her drinking water. We take every comment and concern raised by residents seriously.

We are committed to providing clean, reliable drinking water and protecting public health. Our annual Water Quality Report shows that Virginia Beach’s drinking water meets all state and federal water quality standards. We also recently completed the inventory of all public and private water service lines in the City and found no lead materials. We remain unequivocally confident in the safety of our City’s public water supply.

If you have questions or concerns about your water, here are resources available to you:

•📄Review the annual Water Quality Report: Visit VirginiaBeach.gov/water-quality. Physical copies are also available at the Public Utilities Business Office, 2403 Courthouse Drive. Call 757-385-4171 to request a copy by mail.
•🔬Contact the Public Utilities laboratory: Call 757-385-1400 with questions or to request information about local drinking water quality.
•🏛️Contact state or federal resources: The Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Drinking Water can be reached at 757-683-2000. The U.S. EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline is 1-800-426-4791.
•🚨Report an emergency: If you believe public water infrastructure has been damaged, call 757-385-1400 during business hours or 757-385-3111 after hours.

Due to ongoing drought conditions, water reservoirs serving Virginia Beach are experiencing lower than average storage levels. In response, the City is urging residents to reduce all non-essential water use.

To help conserve water, residents are encouraged to limit their water use for the following:
• Washing vehicles
• Filling swimming pools
• Operating decorative fountains
• Watering vegetation & landscaping
• Washing driveways, building exteriors, & other outdoor surfaces

How else can you help? Consider voluntary water-saving measures, such as:
• Find and fix leaks
• Take shorter showers
• Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or washing dishes
• Only run dishwashers and washing machines when full

The City will continue to evaluate conditions and provide updates as needed.

Traffic Alert: To safely facilitate a sanitary sewer repair, Tulip Drive will be closed between Independence Boulevard and Rutherford Road starting at 5 p.m. today, August 28. Advance warning signs will be placed to notify motorists of the closure and detour routes. Area residents will have access to their properties at all times. This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 29; weather permitting.

Customers are encouraged to use our online services to manage their accounts and conduct business.

Water and sewer service are not affected.

When you turn on an outdoor faucet, water flows out of your hose based on pressure in the water system. However, a sudden change in water pressure can make water flow BACK in the opposite direction in a process called backflow, which can allow potential contaminants to enter the City’s water distribution system.
