Pride is about celebrating love, authenticity, and the freedom to be yourself.

I had a wonderful time at Dining Divas Drag Brunch celebrating the vibrant LGBTQ+ community and the diversity that makes our region stronger.

This Pride Month, we celebrate how far we’ve come while recognizing that the work of protecting equality continues. This November, Virginians will have the opportunity to vote on removing Virginia’s outdated same-sex marriage ban from our state constitution and affirming that every person deserves the freedom to marry the person they love.

As a physician, I’ve cared for people from every background and walk of life. I believe everyone deserves dignity, respect, and equal protection under the law. Building a stronger community means ensuring that everyone feels welcomed, valued, and free to live authentically.

When I decided to run for Congress, it wasn’t because I wanted a title. It was because I believed our community deserved a representative who would listen, show up, and put people first.

Today, seeing our first yard signs arrive is a reminder of how far we’ve come together.

This campaign started with conversations at kitchen tables, community events, places of worship, and neighborhood doorsteps. It has grown because of people who believe that healthcare should be affordable, that working families deserve a fair shot, and that government should work for the people it serves.

Every yard sign represents a neighbor who believes in our vision for Virginia’s Second District. Every volunteer, donor, supporter, and voter has helped build the momentum that is carrying this campaign forward.

We are building something special together, and we’re just getting started.

Recent reporting shows that emergency rooms across Virginia are experiencing some of the longest wait times we’ve seen in years, and as a doctor, I know how stressful and overwhelming that can be for families seeking care.

Behind every long wait is a senior veteran managing a chronic illness, a parent worried about their child, or a working family trying to get help when they need it most. When emergency rooms are stretched thin, it places added pressure on healthcare workers and impacts the entire healthcare system across our region.

Throughout my career caring for patients, I’ve seen firsthand how delays in care can create additional stress and lead to worse outcomes. These challenges aren’t abstract policy discussions, they affect real people in our community every single day.

That experience is one of the reasons I’m running to represent this District. I understand the realities families and healthcare providers are facing because I’ve worked alongside them. We need leadership that listens, understands the challenges on the ground, and is focused on strengthening the systems our communities rely on every day.

IT’S OFFICIAL: WE MADE IT ONTO THE BALLOT!!! 🗳️🎉🙌🏾💙

Almost a year ago, we started this journey with a belief that our community deserved leadership that listens, shows up, and fights for everyday people. Today, that belief became reality.

Getting onto the Congressional ballot was not easy. We had to collect over 1,000 verified signatures from people across our district, knowing that many signatures are often challenged or thrown out. To make sure our community’s voices were heard, our team collected more than 1,500 signatures.

That meant long days and late nights. Multiple events every day. Knocking on doors. Conversations with neighbors. Collecting 20 signatures here, 30 signatures there — over and over again. And all while pregnant, giving birth, and becoming a new mom. It took blood, sweat, and tears. Literally.

And now here we are… We did it!

To every volunteer, supporter, friend, family member, and neighbor who believed in me: THANK YOU. You carried us to this moment.

But this is only the beginning. Voting starts next month, and we have a big fight ahead over these next 8 weeks. We’re building something special together, and I’m ready to keep fighting for our community every step of the way.

This Memorial Day We honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Memorial Day has always had a deep meaning for me and my family. We grew up with an appreciation that many of the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy here are not guaranteed everywhere in the world. Those freedoms were hard fought for and secured through the sacrifice of many. Growing up, I watched my mother spend decades caring for military families through Tricare, and throughout my own career, I’ve had the privilege of serving those who served our country at the VA and in the community.

Here in Hampton Roads, our lives have been shaped by service, by those who wore the uniform, and also by the families who stood beside them through sacrifice and loss.

Military service is woven into the fabric of our communities, and Memorial Day carries deep meaning for so many of us. Today we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and honor the lives, dreams, and futures they gave in service to others.

We remember them. We honor them. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
