Virginia Beach Arts & Humanities Commission grantee Ballet Virginia presents "Heart + Soul" at fellow grantee The Zeiders American Dream Theater Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11! 🕺

Dance, with its profound ability to evoke emotions through movement, is all about “Heart + Soul”. Whether it’s a sweet love story, a joyful meeting, or deep and complex issues, dance has the ability to express and explore it like no other art form.

Ballet Virginia’s professional company will perform a variety of themed classical and contemporary works with a focus on diversity. The production will include Lydia Roberts Coco’s acclaimed “FIVE”, along with “Dark Instincts”, the joyous “A Seed of Faith” and an uplifting new piece. “FIVE” is Coco’s work of historical significance which tells the moving story of the Central Park Five. Ballet Virginia's second company, BVII, will perform under the direction of Suzanne Lownsbury and Janina Michalski.

"Light Garden" was designed by internationally renowned artist Dale Eldred in 1988. It was originally located in the courtyard of the former Pavilion Convention Center, but needed to be relocated when the Pavilion was demolished in 2003.

In 2012, landscape architect Keith Oliver, with the firm InSites, led the project to give the sculpture a new configuration for a new location at Princess Anne Park.

The 32 glass sun-refraction panels are now arranged at Princess Anne Commons Gateway Park to resemble a grove of trees and to illustrate the role of light throughout the day. The lighting update from neon to LED was by Gary Granger of Pace Collaborative. Barbara Duke and Greg Newman with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation championed the project through the design and construction processes.

Today is , a global celebration during this season of giving. 🎁

The Public Art Virginia Beach Foundation, Inc. was formed in December 2012 to raise private dollars aimed at enhancing public spaces throughout the City with works of art. Modeled after similar nonprofit organizations in Virginia, New York and California. The Foundation’s goal is to showcase Virginia Beach as a welcoming, creative City that takes great pride in our public spaces.

The Wave by Jeff Laramore, a 35-foot stainless steel sculpture inside the Laskin Road roundabout was the Foundation’s first gift of sculpture to the City and creates a strong sense of arrival to the Resort Area. Donald Lipski's The Canoes (pictured here), a 36-foot aluminum sculpture on the pedestrian overlook of the Lesner Bridge was the Foundation's second gift to the City.

Please consider supporting the Foundation's mission, and learn more, at https://vbpublicart.org/foundation.

Happy ! Thank you to all who've served in our nation's military, protected our country and fought for our freedom. 🇺🇸

The Tidewater Veterans Memorial, located directly across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center, is a striking tribute to the heroic veterans of war and the brave military personnel who strive to maintain world peace and harmony.

Born of the vision of Bill Hallead, this extraordinary task was undertaken by a group of military veterans and community leaders who conceived the idea of organizing a contest amongst school students to form the idea upon which this memorial would be built. Their themes were given form by a team of leading artists, sculptors and architects who toiled to create this memorial. The memorial is designed to signify the manner in which the world is torn apart by war. The spherical shapes have cut-out centers to denote the emptiness that war leaves in its wake. The waterfall represents the turmoil that war causes while its motion stands for the pursuit to bring people together.

A timeless tribute to the heroism of those who have braved the horrors of war so that their countrymen might live in freedom and democracy, the Tidewater Veterans Memorial is a must visit for any visitor to Virginia Beach.

Local students Edward Davis, Audrea Powell, and Martha Ellen Clark contributed to the concept.
