Va. Beach council OKs tax break

This is one of the issues I ran on. Thank you to those council members and Mr. Kellam for helping our small businesses. Those who did not support this are not very aware of the impact this has on small businesses. It means a great deal to them but has a miniscule impact on the city budget.

VIRGINIA BEACH — Small business owners in Virginia Beach will be pleasantly surprised when they receive their business license renewal letters in the mail at the end of the month.

I am proud to have the support of my old friend Ken Barefoot. Ken has known me since my high school years playing football for Kempsville and his sons played for Princess Anne. Ken was a standout football player for Virginia Tech and went on to play professional football for the former Washington Redskins.🏈

NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Smith says Rudee Loop proposals raise questions of cronyism, ‘backroom deals’ in Virginia Beach

The GOB...Good Old Boy system needs to be drained! Vote all incumbents out.

Smith, one of the developers who has pitched an idea to the city on redeveloping Rudee Loop, is questioning why the city is positioning to buy a hotel next to the site, and how that same hotel ended up in another developer's proposal.

The Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) just released every candidate's most current campaign finance report in the Commonwealth of Virginia. With the hope of being helpful to Virginia Beach voters, I have linked below VPAP's current campaign finance reporting on all Virginia Beach local elections races. These reports show how much each Virginia candidate running for office has collected in actual and "in-kind" political donations/contributions and how they are spending these contributions.

I encourage everyone voting in this election to please review these insightful reports for themselves and see exactly which individuals, businesses, special interests, and/or political action committees gave to each candidate they are considering. This is an invaluable resource for Virginia voters to get a much better understanding of who or what supports each person running for elected office.

As you look at my Campaign Finance Report and compare it against my opponents in VB District 9, you see much smaller donations received from many friends, neighbors, and small business owners that care a lot about our city and its future direction. My campaign is truly a grass-roots, community-driven, campaign for change. I am very proud and humbled beyond words to have such deep and wide support throughout VB District 9. As you will see from my campaign finance reporting, I have not accepted any special interest contributions. My support comes from the civic leagues and concerned citizens that agree it is time for new leadership on city council.

I consider myself a man of the people. I am running to be elected as VB District 9's next council representative because our community's voice has been ignored and our input has not been requested. We need a better, more effective, more transparent, and lastly more focused city council representative that truly understands VB 9th District's issues and has a plan for addressing them effectively.

This is my first run for an elected office, and it has been an eye opening experience to see all the campaign games that are played across the city. Make no mistake, the powerbroker's goal is to elect six councilmembers so that they have a majority vote on council and can essentially drive their expensive special interest agenda. Please do not let this happen. Vote for change. Vote for the candidate that you can trust to represent our community's interests on the city council. Vote for the candidate that is not beholden to special interests and is ready to start making a difference.

This picture was taken the day before Tammy's surgery when she had breast cancer. She was a brave warrior. I remember the moment we found out she had cancer. It is like a death sentence. Time stopped. You realize life is short and you appreciate every moment. If you are a survivor of cancer or the caregiver of a cancer survivor I think you understand.

I see it as a sign of respect to ask for permission to put my sign up in front of their business. Not everyone does that. They assume it and put theirs up without permission. I am blessed to be part of this group every Friday morning. They are collectively some of the pillars of our community and I consider it a privilege to be able to listen to their wit and wisdom. Dr. Truman Baxter, Dick Thurmond, Judge Bob Cromwell, Dr. Clancy Holland, Tom Batts and Dr. David Young. Great win for Bayside Marlins. Head Coach Jon White does an excellent job mentoring and teaching these young men the great game of football. These are another two young men I have had the privilege to work with. Robby Pellek is a sophomore and never played football before 9th grade. He is now the fulltime long snapper. Senior Tristan Woodley is another great prospect who started late but is excelling on the field and off. Expect to be watching him on Saturdays in the future.
