Did you know that in 2022 Virginia Beach 4-H programs and were supported and sponsored by:
Cullipher Farms (VB 4-H Ham Project)
Virginia Beach Farmer's Market (VB 4-H Ham Project, VB 4-H Summer Camp)
Cahoon Real Estate (VB 4-H Summer Camp)
Smithfield Foods ( VB 4-H Ham Project)
If you get a chance please thank these businesses for their support of 4-H youth programs. We could not keep our projects and programs affordable for our community without their support!!
Virginia Beach 4-H says THANK YOU!!
If you missed our 4-H Ham Project meeting tonight, please call our office and speak to Jonette Mungo, 4-H Agent , if you are planning to participate in the project this year. You have until November 21st to be registered and paid in full to participate. Call our office at 757-385-4769.
If you missed the fun today at the Virginia Beach Farmer's Market, here is a short snippet of the fun we had. The 4-H table was a hit and over 80 people stopped by to eat a bug. And the 4-H Foragers Bee Club was on location educating and talking to people interested in learning the craft, importance, and joy of beekeeping. Visit our website to contact this club and our other Va Beach 4-H Clubs. We do big things in the city of Va Beach. Join the Revolution of 4-H. :-)
Va Beach 4-H can bring lessons on bugs (decomposers and life cycles of bugs) to classrooms and Homeschool groups throughout the city. Call our office at 757-385-4769. Eating bugs not a requirement. LOL 😆
If you or someone you know ate a bug with us today, post a picture here and tag Virginia Beach 4-H. Thank you for accepting the challenge and remember to wear your button with honor. 🥰
The 4-H table was buzzzzzzing today at the SE VA Hokie Bug Fest. I could barely snap pictures of everyone who stopped by to learn about millipedes, cicadas, stag beetles, and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. But these were two kind folks who accepted the challenge and ate a bug today. Over 70 folks stopped by to taste the future of protein alternatives. LOL
Don't forget the SE Hokie Bug Fest is this Saturday at the VA Beach Farmer's Market.
Can you eat like a bug? Or if that's too tame: can you eat a bug itself?
I know it is a busy weekend, but please come out and support this Saturday. The 4-H Bee will be there and I will also be there with a fun bug challenge. Come see me. We may even convince you to eat a bug. 🤩

Throughout the City of Virginia Beach, there are 12 4-H clubs where children ages 5 to 19 participate in a wide variety of hands-on learning projects. There are several projects to choose from, depending on the interests of the kids.
Mark your calendars for the start of a new 4-H year. The Livestock Club will be having its first meeting Monday, September 26. Please share the flyer with those you know who may be interested in joining the fun this year. Non-ownership projects and activities are available.
Come see, learn, and taste a bug or two. 😂
Seriously though- 4-H will be there with a special bug table and a few buggy treats while they last.
Outdoor Adventures with Parks And Rec this week proved to be rewarding. Youth participants explored the outdoor world for what they didn’t know was there if only they looked. The hunt for cicadas led the kids to discover cicada nymphs molting, moving up trees post ground emergence, and the discovery of empty nymph shells. It is so much fun to see the excitement in kids faces when they discover something new.
Camp is a weekend away. And the 4-H teens and interns have helped create some very special activities for our Medieval themed week.

4-H Volunteers are the best. The true life line of a 4-H program.
The continuation of chick hatch out Day 2. Still waiting. It can take up to 24 hours for a chick to fully emerge from its shell. LOL longer than this stream will last.
Once again Virginia Beach 4-H has conducted the Embryology Project with teachers across the city. Over 1600 students have been able to learn about the animal life cycle through the hatching of chicken eggs. Teachers engaged students in the hands-on process of monitoring and documenting data, maintaining the proper conditions needed to hatch eggs in an incubator, and then caring for the newly hatched chicks before returning them to the 4-H office. Students also learn compassion and caring through participating in this project. What an amazing way to learn!!
Celebrate Agriculture Day was a huge hit. It was great to show the public how Agriculture takes us from the "Farm to the Closet." We had lambs on hand to show where wool comes from, alpaca, silk, and bamboo fabric to show the extreme diversity of agriculture fiber production. And of course, Creme Brulee were there to show where angora fiber comes from....they are French Angora rabbits after all. Thank you to Leigh Henderson for bringing the lambs and Benson Alpaca Meadows
Benson Alpaca Meadows for the amazing fibers and Macaw feathers. Thank you Craft Club for demonstrating how feathers gave us the design for zippers and helping our visitors make their own feather pens. Thank you Teens for your time today tending to the animals and teaching the public all about how Agriculture helps to keep us clothed and warm.
Thursday, March17, the 4-H Educational Bunnies took some time out to walk on their leashes as they prepared for their big day at the VB Farmer's Market "Celebrate Agriculture" Event. Thank you to Already Been Chewed in Virginia Beach for outfitting them with their harness and leashes.
An exciting post about our VB 4-H teen who participated in 4-H National Conference this week. What a great time and experience she had.
School partnerships with VB Schools is amazing!! At Parkway we began a series called Surviving Jamestown. Through our Environmental Education kit, we helped 4th grade students learn how sustainable agriculture practices and skills helped Jamestown survive. They also learned a thing or two about tracking animals through s**t I.D. and animal track I.D.
4-H is amazing and so are Parkway 4th grade Science teachers. https://twitter.com/VaBeach4H/status/1503783522368204801?s=20&t=8a0K3ZWE9YxgCjVU4gOg5g
