Our Therapy Dog Team took this week to see crews daily and provide a little extra support following the recent VBPD tragedy. Events like this spotlight the extraordinary job these pups perform and we thank them and the dog moms for their dedicated service to us.

While the EMS, PD, and hospital staff may look unfamiliar you may recognize Apollo (GSD) and Moose (Golden Retriever). They recently returned from a deployment with Crisis Response Canines in NOLA following the attack on Bourbon Street earlier this month. There they visited various first responders and offered some puppy love to help mend the unseen wounds from such a horrible tragedy.

We’re so proud to have Apollo and Moose and of course their awesome mom’s Erin and Megan on our Therapy Dog Team! Great job guys!!!

I want to thank all of our dog moms and dads, our pups that come happy and ready to receive your pets, and everyone who helps to make this program possible.

We end the year with 162 hours of mental health shifts, a handful of active incidents, and a couple events here and there to get awareness out for the program. I hope that everyone who comes into contact with our pups on shift leaves with a better mental headspace and can continue their day knowing that we’re just a call away.
