One of our non-profit partners is in urgent need of donations.

Due to an increase in demand, we are in urgent need of diapers and wipes on both the Southside and on the Peninsula. We are also collecting toiletries and cleaning supplies for those seniors we are delivering food too. Donations can be dropped off at the door at our Virginia Beach office (5136 Virginia Beach Blvd.) on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., or on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at our Newport News office (12829 Jefferson Ave., Suite 101) on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. You can also shop from our Amazon Wish List and ship items directly to our Virginia Beach office. https://buff.ly/2ysZupe Thank you for your help!

VBFD’s Captain William “Bull” Rostenberg was honored with a visit from WTKR’s Beverly Kidd at Station 11 recently. Beverly and her photographer stopped by to present Captain Rostenberg with a News Channel 3 “People Taking Action Award”. The award was in recognition of “Bull’s” work to lead a fund-raising effort to purchase a new adult tricycle for a beach teenager named Travis Therault. Travis’ old tricycle had been stolen. Prior to that, Captain Rostenberg and his crew (then at Company 4) had become friends with Travis at the grocery store where he works. According to Captain Rostenberg, “Travis’s positive outlook and endless smile can pick you up even on your worst day”. To repay Travis for being such an inspiration to him and his crew they bought him a new tricycle with money earned on a “Go Fund Me” page VB Firefighters started on Facebook. In just two days, citizens donated enough money to purchase Travis’ new ride. In fact, there was a surplus of a little more than $800 which Travis donated to the Special Olympics where he plays on the basketball team. You can see the award presentation on WTKR’s 5:30 evening news broadcast on March 24th.

Beach Bags

With City Schools being closed for two weeks, and knowing many children get their breakfast and lunch provided by the schools, they’ve asked us to please consider donating to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Beach Bags program via credit card at www.vbef.org. Or, checks can be mailed to VBEF with “Beach Bags” in the memo line to 2512 George Mason Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. In light of recent events at the housing resource center, what steps are being taken to ensure the safety of volunteers? I went to a few of your meetings before the center opened and my questions about safety were rebuffed. I also sent an email inquiring the same question, I was told that police would be making patrols through the area But there would be no permanent police presence. Has this changed?
Hello. Do you have any volunteer opportunities during the week or just weekends? I would love to do some volunteer work. How would I found opportunites that I could participant.
