Is your disaster/hurricane kit ready? You can find a list of suggested items at ready.gov/kit.
#HurricanePrep #beprepared

After a storm, you may need to survive on your own for several days – that means having emergency food, water and other supplies to last at least 72 hours. A good time to build your kit is when there isn’t an imminent threat. Be sure to take the needs of individual family members like seniors (prescription medications), babies (diapers, formula) and pets into consideration. Due to the pandemic, include hand sanitizer, masks and disinfecting wipes. You can find a list of suggested items at ready.gov/kit. #HurricaneStrong #BeAForce #HurricanePrep

During this year’s National Volunteer Week, we wanted to take a moment to say a special thank you to all the volunteers from various state and local agencies that assisted with efforts to Vaccinate VB! Because of dedicated volunteers from organizations like Virginia Medical Reserve Corps, VB CERT and Virginia Beach EMS, we were able to vaccinate thousands of individuals in Virginia Beach. We can’t thank you enough!

On Monday, April 19, the Office of Volunteer Resources had the honor of joining Mayor Bobby Dyer to present the 2020 Debra L. Elam Volunteer of the Year Award.

This year’s award honored Mayor’s Youth Leaders in Action (MYLA) volunteer Isabella Small, who has been volunteering since 2019. In her time with the City, Isabella has contributed to the success of many events that seek to engage young people throughout Hampton Roads. While COVID may have discouraged some, Isabella has persevered and continued volunteering and even led the MYLA Summer series which featured videos full of different activities to inspire young people.

Congratulations Isabella! We are so proud!

04/12/2021

Virginia Beach residents won't have to wait for e-mail or text invitations to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment anymore. Starting today, people can go to the mass clinic at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and register for a shot there. If it's possible, registrants might be able to get an appointment on the same day. The center expects to have a limited number of same-day vaccine appointments available for people who do walk-up registrations. To play it safe, you can still schedule an appointment directly at https://register.vams.cdc.gov/?jurisdiction=VB
Emergency Medical Services Chief and Incident Commander Ed Brazle said. Walk-up registration at the Convention Center will be available between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the following days:
• Monday, April 12 & 19
• Wednesday, April 14 & 21
• Thursday, April 15 & 22

The vaccination clinic at the Virginia Beach Convention Center is now offering walk-up registration for patients who would like to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Walk-up hours are from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on April, 12, 14, 15, 19, 21 and 22. Vaccine appointments can now also be scheduled directly through the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS). Schedule an appointment to guarantee a vaccine; walk-up registrants will be provided limited, same-day vaccinations as available. https://www.vbgov.com/news/pages/selected.aspx?release=5226&title=update%3a+virginia+beach+moving+to+include+walk-up+covid-19+vaccination+registration+at+convention+center

In light of recent events at the housing resource center, what steps are being taken to ensure the safety of volunteers? I went to a few of your meetings before the center opened and my questions about safety were rebuffed. I also sent an email inquiring the same question, I was told that police would be making patrols through the area But there would be no permanent police presence. Has this changed?
Hello. Do you have any volunteer opportunities during the week or just weekends? I would love to do some volunteer work. How would I found opportunites that I could participant.
