To honor the lives lost in the deadly shooting, the superintendent is encouraging VBCPS students, staff, and community members to wear blue on Monday.

Due to power outages, all VBCPS schools and administrative offices will be closed today, Friday, Oct. 12.
Due to current weather conditions and potential flooding concerns, all schools and administrative offices will be operating on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Oct. 12. We will continue to assess the weather and update families of any additional changes as needed through an Alert Now email and phone call. Information also will be posted to the school division website www.vbschools.com and shared through social media channels.

Just a reminder PICTURE DAY is Thursday, September 27th during students PE time.
We have 3 more days remaining! Please don't forget to bring in your peanut butter.
Each class is collecting unopened peanut butter jars until September 28th to raise awareness of hunger in our community. They will build a display in the school with their peanut butter jars and the class with the most peanut butter and most creative display will WIN a PIZZA PARTY!
Winners will be announced on October 5th. Thank you for your support!
Please note all schools and administrative offices will be open and back to normal operations beginning Monday, Sept. 17. We again want to thank to our families and community for their patience and flexibility this past week. We look forward to seeing all of our students back Monday morning.
Due to the ongoing mandatory evacuation order and changing forecast for Hurricane Florence, all schools and administrative offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 14. In addition, all schools and offices will close at 4 p.m. today. We will continue to monitor the weather as well as road and building conditions throughout the weekend, and we will communicate any additional changes to school operations with families through an Alert Now message, on social media and on vbschools.com. Thank you again for your ongoing support of the division, and we hope all our staff and families stay safe through this storm.

Please note that due to the governor’s order of mandatory evacuation for residents in Zone A, all schools will be closed for students tomorrow, Sept. 11. All staff are to report on time tomorrow. Staff who live in Zone A may report to work; however, if they are unable, they should discuss with their supervisor and may be granted administrative leave. Any other staff who choose to evacuate or otherwise prepare for inclement weather, annual or personal leave rules will apply. In addition, all schools and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday. Sept. 12 until further notice.

Dear Green Run families,
As some of you may have heard, Farm Fresh stores have been sold and will be changing ownership soon. The Farm Fresh Community program is ending, We thank you so much for your support of Green Run Elementary School this year. Because of your support, we earned 49,936 points, in which we were able to redeem towards free classroom supplies and equipment for our students and teachers.
Although the Farm Fresh program is ending, we still have other community programs that you may participate with such as kroger, box tops and harries teether.

REMINDER: This week is Kindness Spirit Week!
Monday - wear bright colors to remind everyone to say something kind to brighten others day!
Tuesday- Bow-tie Tuesday - kindness is a gift, tie it with a bow.
Wednesday- wear pink or red, because we LOVE kindness!
Thursday- Wear your shirts backwards, remember words that hurt can not be taken back.
Friday - School Spirit Day! Wear green and gold and be BOLD with the amount of kindness you show.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools will add 15 minutes to the school day Feb. 12 – May 4 to make up the remaining four instructional days lost due to snow this month. The time will be added at the end of the day at elementary and high schools. Middle schools will start five minutes early and end 10 minutes late as part of the adjusted makeup schedule. Families will receive additional communication from each middle school prior to Feb. 12 with specific details.
Update: All schools and offices will return to normal operations and open on-time Friday, Jan. 19. For middle and high school students, tomorrow will be an “A” day. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we prepared to re-open our schools tomorrow.
