The Republican primary for U.S. Senate is coming up on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Three candidates will appear on the ballot in the following order and the winner will oppose Senator Mark Warner on the ballot in November.
Here is a brief, factual overview of each based on publicly available information so you can learn more and make your own decision. Bert Mizusawa for US Senate - Virginia
Bert Mizusawa is a retired U.S. Army Major General. He graduated first in his class from the United States Military Academy at West Point and later earned a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Policy from Harvard. He served more than 35 years in the Army, including combat assignments, and received the Silver Star. He has held senior civilian roles, including Deputy Under Secretary of the Army and senior advisor positions related to national security and the CIA. He is an attorney admitted in multiple jurisdictions.

Kim Farington for U.S. Senate
Kim Farington is a Certified Public Accountant and small business owner who lives in Fairfax Station. She spent more than 30 years in federal financial management roles, including positions at the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Office of Personnel Management, and as Chief Financial Officer of the First Responder Network Authority. After leaving federal service, she founded KTech, a company focused on financial management and cybersecurity. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Excelsior College and is the holder of three patents. She is married to a retired Navy Captain.

David Williams for Virginia
David Williams is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and lives in Reston with his wife and three children. He enlisted in the Navy, graduated from Morehouse College, and served as a Marine infantry officer with deployments to Iraq. He later worked for the U.S. Department of State and as a CIA case officer, including service as a Chief of Station. He has more than 30 years of combined military and national security experience.

Voting Information
Early in-person voting is open now and continues through Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Election Day is Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Virginia does not register voters by party, so any registered voter may participate in the Republican primary.
