Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps

(7)

The Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps (VBMRC) is a component of the Virginia Beach Citizens Corps Council (VBCCC). The VBMRC provides healthcare professionals and others with an organized mechanism through which they can volunteer their time and skills in order to strengthen the City of Virginia Beach by preparing for and responding to large and small scale emergencies, such as an influenza pandemic, chemical spill, or act of terrorism. In addition, the volunteers work to improve the overall health and well being of Virginia Beach by engaging in public health initiatives throughout the year.

Mission: The purpose of the MRC program is to strengthen the community by establishing a local team of trained medical, public health, and other community volunteers. After September 11, thousands of Americans responded by volunteering to help in any way they could. Many more asked, "What can I do to help?" The MRC brings volunteers together to supplement existing local emergency plans and resources in cities, towns, and counties throughout the United States.

Governor Northam of Virginia was sharing a COVID-19 Update today.

7 hrs ·
...

So far, Virginia has avoided the same spike in #COVID19 cases that other states are experiencing, but we are starting to see a concerning increase, particularly in Hampton Roads.

We all have to stay vigilant—we have come too far to let our guard down now.

We are taking a cautious approach to reopening so we can closely monitor what's happening.

We will continue watching the data over the coming days to make sure public health guidelines are being followed—and I won't hesitate to impose restrictions if needed.

If we ALL do our part and take this virus seriously, we can stop the spread.

1️⃣ Avoid large crowds.
2️⃣ Wash your hands often.
3️⃣ Wear face coverings in indoor public spaces,
4️⃣ If you see a business flouting the rules, let your local health department know.

Wishing you a safe and HAPPY 4th OF JULY!

A big shout out to Kyle Bruno, Indira Jagdeo, Cierra Teets who helped out all three days and to Marilyn Mattingly (Tues), Chris Abelein (Wed), and Codie Kesler (Thur) as scribes for the annual Tabletop COOP Exercise. This year's scenario was quite timely - what would we do if there is a pandemic and our workforce is reduced by 15%, 30%, or 40%.
