Vaccinate! Vaccinate! Vaccinate all!
By Michelle Burgess

'Twas the month before New Year’s, and all through the land
Not a person was meeting, and no one shook hands.
Their cloth masks were on, covering their mouth and their nose
In hopes that to the virus, they would not be exposed.

Their two hands were scrubbed; all washed and sanitized.
While visions of big gatherings had them most agonized.
And Biden in his winning, while Trump in his loss,
Had just settled down to prove who was boss.

When out in the world there arose such a clatter,
We read all the news to see what was the matter.
Away to the Facebook, we flew like a flash,
Tore open the news feed, and looked through our cache.

The death rate was climbing; the virus was spreading
Public health pleaded - to bad places we are heading.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
Some breakthroughs that bring some hope ever near.

With a tad bit of patience, for nothing is that quick,
We knew it was coming - the end of pandemic.
The science had proven, effectiveness rated,
And we worked and we planned and now we yet waited:

"Now, health care! now, government!
Now citizens and students!
On, Pfizer! on, Moderna!
On, Astra - Zeneca!
Get logistics in order!
Answer the call!
Now vaccinate! Vaccinate! Vaccinate all!"

As hope gained momentum, we all became keen
To finally end this long quarantine
But shots are in process and in short supply
We need a priority and some to standby.

And then, in a twinkling, we heard through the news
The explaining and details of how we would choose.
As we found out our phase and when it came round,
Out came public health with the final count down.

They were dressed to protect, from their head to their feet,
With face masks and gowns - complete PPE
A bundle of gloves they had stored by their side,
And syringes all ready into arms to be applied.

Phase one – health care workers! Hospitals and clinics!
Long term care teams and charges, yes those we would pick!
Phase two - front line staff at most risk of exposure
And those with preconditions – we’ll give them some closure.

Essential workers we’ll cover, those on the front lines
Then everyone else (except those who decline).
Two shots for each person spaced a few weeks apart
We have it all planned, now we just need to start.

The task ahead is daunting, a true test of our selves
And we wonder how it will work – for we are not elves!
A glitch here or there and the plan could just fail
Lack of trust, supply issues - anything could derail!

We spoke not a word, but went straight to our work,
We all had our roles and no one could shirk.
And laying our minds to the test of the hour
We know through this challenge we all can now power.

We sprang to our stations, to our teams gave the signal
And prepped ourselves for the start of this vigil.
But I want to tell you as we gear up to fight
We’ve got this you all, and to all a good night!

Shared from a friend

T'was 3 weeks before Christmas,
And all through the town,
People wore masks,
That covered their frown.

The frown had begun
Way back in the Spring,
When a global pandemic
Changed everything.

They called it corona,
But unlike the beer,
It didn’t bring good times,
It didn’t bring cheer.

Airplanes were grounded,
Travel was banned.
Borders were closed
Across air, sea and land.

As the world entered lockdown
To flatten the curve,
The economy halted,
And folks lost their nerve.

From March to July
We rode the first wave,
People stayed home,
They tried to behave.

When summer emerged
The lockdown was lifted.
But away from caution,
Many folks drifted.

Now it’s December
And cases are spiking,
Wave two has arrived,
Much to our disliking.

It’s true that this year
Has had sadness a plenty,
We’ll never forget
The year 2020.

And just ‘round the corner -
The holiday season,
But why be merry?
Is there even one reason?

To decorate the house
And put up the tree,
Who will see it,
No one but me.

But outside my window
The snow gently falls,
And I think to myself,
Let’s deck the halls!

So, I gather the ribbon,
The garland and bows,
As I play those old carols,
My happiness grows.

Christmas is not cancelled
And neither is hope.
If we lean on each other,
I know we can cope

Merry Christmas!

Perry Lemley is in your community and I believe a danger to that community. This is an exchange on Linked In where he comments his approach to shooting an unarmed black man. Timothy Pena Veterans Justice Project 1d 'Perry Lemley' I have a question. You see a black man with a cell phone. As a cop and a paramedic, do you leave him there to die after you shoot him (cop) or try and resuscitate him (paramedic)? Reply 'Perry Lemley' 2nd degree connection 2nd Paramedic, Former Law Enforcement Officer 1d As a Paramedic I would not be able to fix him. Because when I was a Police Officer I was also an EMT, if I had to shoot someone there's no fixing them. The rioters at the Capitol were not Trump supporters, they were professional agitators/ BLM and ANTIFA terrorists wearing helmets. I also know the difference between a phone and a weapon. Until you have worn a badge as a Sworn Police Officers do not question people.
